    How is it you're a Mandrake user if you didn't have the last disk :)

    I'm was/is in a similar situation. I bought into the Mandrake Club about 13 months ago because 9.1 and 9.2 were quite excellent. Unfortunately, nothing in 10.0+ made it worth my while to renew the club subscription. Fedora is currently miles ahead of Mandriva and the price is right!

    Umm, not exactly. No offense to Mandrake, Connectiva or Lycoris but the only result of these mergers is that we went from 3 insignificant commercial Linux vendors to 1 insignificant commercial Linux vendor.

    RHCE is not very useful outside a non-Red Hat shop. It also costs a fortune. LPI is dirt-cheap (unless you plan on failing several times) and less recognized.

    I strongly recommend this certification and have acquired it myself after significant research into LPIC, Linux+ and RHCE. The former is too easy and the latter too expensive and vendor-specific.

    I can't speak to the book, but LPIC is an excellent gauge of Linux domain knowledge. This exam really can't be passed without having spent many hours at a Linux command prompt.

    Is there such a thing as Suse Personal anymore? I thought they did away with it and now all you can get is a Live CD (a la Knoppix I presume) if you want to see what SUSE is all about. SUSE's website doesn't mention a Personal Edition for 9.2 which has been released for many months now.

    15 year olds ARE consenting adults in many developed countries. Sodomy is illegal in a few backwater pockets of the US and legal everywhere else. You really should have quit while you were ahead. Why are you arguing legalities anyway? We all answer to the same God.

    Well Linux actually had LESS than 15 security patches in that time. That's why the marketing schmoe had to mention Red Hat and SUSE's distributions by name, since when you talk about Linux you're talking about the kernel only. The astronomical number of patches includes plenty of application software, while the 15 2K3 patches doesn't include Office, Project, Visio, etc. Apples and oranges.

    Thanks for the informed response. I've only been to Vegas a couple times but I don't recall any casinos that used regular chips for denominations less than $1, they always used metal ones (many use metal chips for $1 as well). Can you recall which casinos do that?

    I don't know how much casinos pay for chips, but I'm sure it's much less than the face value printed on them.

    That's not true for the lowest denomination of chip. Real casino chips are made of a type of clay that is not cheap to produce. If you want the feel of real chips when playing poker with your buddies, buy a big load of $1 chips from a casino and take them home, it actually costs less than buying the real ones for yourself!
