    Apple already tapped out the Chinese market that was in it for the social image and prestige.

    More like, the market moved away from Apple. The latest oversized Samsung with a firebreathing quad processor is cool, not Apple's clunky looking product.

    I would not start betting on their demise just yet.

    But I would bet on their continuing descent into irrelevance. Apple is already something your mom is more likely to own than you.

    Stuffing technology in schools in this manner has no impact on education.

    What do you mean? Stuffing money into Apple's richly tailored pockets teaches the kids that nothing gets you ahead like greed and avarice.

    And throwing a few full time employees at astromodding social sites works wonders too.

    Wasn't this tried before? The students and teachers found little use for them because they could not interact easily with their PCs with word/excel/email etc.

    These days they would interact with Google docs, Wikpedia, etc. Why they need overpriced, proprietary Apple products for that is far from clear.

    BTW, a few electrocutions from now maybe people will figure out what's wrong with a solid aluminum case.

    With Android's market share in tablets exceeding Apple by a wide margin you would expect that this emphasis on Apple will wane.

    You're forgetting the infrastructure to support it. Wifi in classrooms, provisioning system. School App Store. Insurance policy. Training for teachers. Licensing for content.

    Bonuses for salesmen. Payola for school board. Hush money for regulators. Champagne for Apple execs.

    That's a little rich for content that is created once and thereafter costs the vendor $0.00 to distribute. What was the tender process for this contract?

    Wow, $968 per tablet, what a great deal. Only four times more than retail for the higher specced Nexus 7. This in a city where kids are regularly sent home for "short days" to save salary.

    Samsung truly does not care about Google's own-brand phones, because it outsells them by a large multiple. Google's phones are more like "concept cars", they showcase new OS features and set the hardware standard, to Samsung's benefit.

    They abandoned their symbiotic relationship with Apple and used Eric Schmidt's position as an Apple board member to become a competitor in the Mobile market.

    Wow, that's some major respin. The way I heard it, they bought a startup named "Android" and used it to become a competitor in the Mobile market. Google did this because Apple planned to take the smartphone advertising market for itself, which you didn't need to be on Apple's board to know.

    Don't be an ass. Linux does not "go nowhere", it rules the world at the moment, or didn't you notice that you are surrounded by Linux devices because you are too busy admiring the daily poop you excrete onto Slashdot.

    There is exactly one major computing segment where Linux does not rule the world, and that is PCs, where Microsoft owns and operates a thuggish racket involving illegal exercise of market power over vendors. And that one is starting to show cracks.

  23. Google is sick of 1 company on earth making any significant money off Android, and it isn't them. Expect Android to become less and less open.

    Google will do that at it peril. "More open" is an important line of attack that Samsung has. And as the biggest vendor of Android handsets - by far - Samsung has more than a little leverage there.

    I expect that Google will ultimately be forced to cede control of Android development to a community board. Winner: everybody, even Google, because Android will suck less when users are actually able to fix the stupid things that are wrong with it.

    It's the "big lie". What is the charger for an Android phone? Oh right, a standard USB cable. What is the charger for an Apple product? Oh right, an electric chair waiting to happen. Compounded by the aluminum case. Hey isn't that the same aluminum case that makes an awful antenna?
