I guess I'm already boycotting Windows XP, all
other versions of Windows, as well as OS/2,
GNU/Hurd, NetBSD, Solaris, AtheOS and whatever
else is not installed on my computer.
Boycott makes sense if I would buy something
but I don't in order to "punish" the
manufacturer. How many slashdotters would buy
Windows XP if not this boycott?
I bet that the above message was moderated as flamebait from MSIE. It's a shame for a site that promotes free software to allow moderation from closed source browsers.
I could not find any technical arguments
in the Intel's statement. It's a legal
problem between VIA and Intel.
It should be safe
to ignore this warning.
I doubt that Intel can sue users
of VIA motherboards.
Some limited support. Netscape will more than likely release another minor update in a few months to catch any top crashers. It will also release updates for any security issues that arise. With Mozilla you must apply a patch or wait for the next milestone.
I cannot imagine how anybody can consider this as an advantage. What you are saying is that Netscape users must wait for the next version, while Mozilla user have a choice - either to wait or to apply a patch. Not quite true - they can also try nightly builds. But anyway, are you saying that having choice is bad?
My productivity applications are gcc, make and gdb.
Abiword is sufficient for my resume. Mozilla is sufficient to post it on all sites were I want to post it. StarOffice is sufficient to read all the legitimate documents (not jokes) that my colleagues and friends (not spammers) send to me. And I hope to replace it with Open Office soon.
If you have a popular
file-sharing program called KaZaA
I think it's time to add one more/. section - news for Windows users.
I would like to exclude such
stories from my homepage.
Why? Because I don't run Windows.
I already know that installing
closed-source software is like trusting
your root password to
Mr. CEO of MegaCorp, Inc.
That's why I don't.
I fixed drag-and-drop from Mozilla
to GMC (Gnome file manager) five minutes
ago. Expect this feature in mc-4.5.55
which will be released in August 2001.
It's not going to happen. There are easier
ways to challenge his arrest. Alone the
fact that he did nothing wrong while in the US
may be sufficient for the judge.
I want to see DMCA repealed, but I want
Dmitry to go home as a free man much, much more.
Correct. Making stack non-executable also
helps without slowing anything down,
unlike stackguard. Many people would argue that
it's not a complete solution, because
the already loaded code can be used for malicious
purposes. But believe me, there is
no such thing as a complete solution anyway.
Not quite true. Not everybody shops for speed -
some people (e.g. my non-geek friends) shop for
speed+reliability. If treir
system freezes when they are trying to
sell tumbling stock options they would
lose much more than the cost of that
frigging Pentium 4.
By the way, do you think that people
buy ECC memory only for servers?
Go to lart.com and click a link to the USENET 2 project. It's basically what you are describing.

But I agree that the initial post was lame and uninformed.

It's the comment from the previous story. The first reply is from the same story.
Adobe must have licensed this virus technology from Microsoft.

How about you?
Please don't write spam in all capitals. It is not an acronym when it means unsolicited e-mail.
Wow, Pi is Leet!

It's not really about monopoly.
