The government (note: the government) of Virginia required someone to put up a bond when freeing his slaves, to ensure that the slaves would not become a ward of the state. Jefferson, not being the idiot you think he was, was quite aware of the contradictions of his ownership of slaves, but simply couldn't afford to free them.
As for Jefferson boning his female slaves, the genetic evidence merely shows that a male in the Jefferson family passed on his genes. It could quite easily have been Jefferson's nephew, who was known to spend weeks at a time when visiting. -russ p.s. facts are such ugly things, aren't they?

Sorry, but I have no reason to criticize Linus's beer belly. I put on an similar amount of weight between our first and second children. Guess what? If you're a hacker, and father, and athlete, something has to go. You can't stop being a father without killing your kids (although at 5:00AM, the possibility becomes much more attractive), and choosing between hacking and athletics, well, the athletics went.

You're right that if the EULA is invalid, people would only have the default permissions that copyright law grants them -- that is, none. However, they don't have that permission, nor a lot of other permissions, under the EULA.
People would still have the legal right to use the software, however. -russ
Sorry dude, this is bullshit. If they don't give the software to anyone but themselves, they have no more requirements under the GPL than any other license to copy. Look at Critical Path. They've modified the hell out of qmail. But that's okay, because they're not distributing it.
Go read the GPL before you opine on it. -russ
Doh! If it's internal, you don't have to!
