Muds don't exactly use up massive amounts of bandwith, I mean you can play most of them on a 14.4K modem, probably even something slower. If your school is that hard up for bandwith your in trouble.
They used linux as the OS? You know the thing that doesn't compile cleanly on the Sparc Arch. because no one is (wants to?) maintain it. Ever think that linux probably has undergone more tweeking on the i386 platform then a barly maintained platform?
Ok, so what about the ISP's that run off of a few T1 lines? Plus I would think that those TOS are from the ISP, you could just find another in that case, however if you wanted to sell your T1 as a point to point link from A to B I don't think they would care.
Um, DSL and cable aren't exactly business class connections, that's why there is next to no QOS and most say for recrecational use only. As to T1's, what about the ISP's that run off of a T1 line? It all depends what you get in your TOS, I would think that most business class lines (T1, T3, etc) don't really care what you are using them for, as long as you pay your bills.
The problem with micropayments is the overhead in processing them. Hell if we each sent Taco some pennies via USPS then there wouldn't be a problem, but doing when credit card processing the credit card companies take out a percentage as does paypal. So by the time you factor in the processing costs 10c or 50c ends up being a few dollars. I wonder how much they are acutally making after paypal takes a cut and they account for the overhead involved in adding a user to the subscribed table or whatever.
You could just wear track cleats with 3/4 inch spikes in, hell I think they even make 1 inch spikes. Although I think those are more for cross country then track.
Besides the above reasons as to why it wouldn't take off, if the person isn't getting paid more then it costs to leave the computer on there isn't any incentive for joe blow to just leave it on all day and contribute. For some people (the ones that are probably already using dnet or seti) this isn't a problem because they usually have it on, however most families aren't going to leave the computer on all day all the time, plus many computers go into a suspend mode which saves power.
What other people say isn't the companies intellectual property. This has next to nothing to do with IP, its all about slander and postings on a message board. It would be like someone sueing you for your post there.
What about the other programs that use the FastTrack network? They all look the same, and aside from using a diffrent plugin for the ads, I would thing that the networking protocol would be similer so this could affect them also.
Also can anyone confirm that it does change the registry settings? Seems kinda farfetched even for just a file sharing program unless there were huge undisclosed security holes.
The tight physical confinement of many of those stacked layers makes them act as so-called quantum wells, in which electrons can only have certain amounts of energy, Gmachl explains. Those specific energy levels are determined by the laws of quantum mechanics.
Sounds like the 1 electron processor from Signal to Noise. I wonder if anyone has a simple explanation of how it exactly works? It seems that the electrons build up so much energy which pentrates diffrent strata of semiconductors and that creates the diffrent wavelenghes. Is that anywhere close to right?
It uses SSL.
That means that all the get/post stuff is encrypted. That kinda invaildates your whole argument.

If they are using peek-a-booty then it uses ssl, so unless your going to have it alert you everytime traffic is seen over the ssl ports then there isn't really any way to tell where they are going. Although you could restrict ssl traffic to domain names that sound right. i.e. ssl.amazon.com instead of user177.net146.net

You have no clue how most banks work do you? Most banks still use dumb terminals to access a secured (supposedly) mainframe type system where all the acutal number processing is done. The people with real pcs use some sort of terminal emulator or telnet to access it. So unless this is one hell of a "malicious site" I really doubt anything that bad could/would happen. If anything, on personal computers it would be loan applications and stuff such as that which is duplicated all over the place.
Um, except that Iago doesn't covet Othello's wife, he just wants to ruin him for passing him over for promotion and choosing Cassius (I think it is). That's why he goes on to turn Othello agenst his wife and his most loyal friend.
wow, you must have some crappy firewall software if it generates alerts for ports over 16K, I mean come on the ports go up to 65K. And Linux really doesn't have much bering on the argument, the ports it uses are easily changed, (Just have to edit some.h file I think, I use Freebsd so don't know offhand). Plus lots of network games use ports above 16K, such as Quake and Half-life and the various mods. Are they going to declare online gaming illegal next?
damn right, the 944 is quite a nice car. The 959 though is an awesome car overall, too bad they aren't legal in the US.:( Do a google search on them to find out why.
Did you try to use any compression with vnc? You might want to try tightvnc (tightvnc.com)
soaked up by kids wasting time on MUDs

You just need to install an X client/server on your windows computer, there are tons out there. I think even XFree will work in windows.

I'm sure there are many more out there
hm, I have an old Compaq Lunchbox, with a 386 (or is it 286) and a hardrive of some sorts that can't be accessed any more.

Did you read the part of the log which said another way to look at the subscription thing is as a tip jar?

so how can I connect to battle.net at a private lan party without internet access? IP over carrier pigions?

how do you know that b.account_number exists at all? Wouldn't it just be b.zip_code?
Castle Wolfenstein runs on linux. They released binaries for both multiplayer and single player. Also it works pretty well under wine.
