It is my belief his research and tools would have faired better without twitter intervention, Moxie's is a private security firm, twitter is a corporation. Moxie will have little say in the long term as to the direction of his projects, thereby he chose to sell out, which most people would consider amoral.
This is equivalent to me making a website / forum kind of thing, supporting it, building the community and then selling it to google w/o care for my supporters, or users.
Yep, it's not moral, he sold out, but who can blame him? While being a security researcher is fun, doing it on a sailboat in your "free" time is funner to just about anyone. What I'm curious is which of projects is twitter after? None of them seem to really fit into what it's currently doing. I don't c a twitter android os in the future, nor do I see them doing telemarketing, so...?:)
Oh, I was under the impression we were still talking about tracking mechanisms, but ya if all you want to do is block ads then adblock+ is great. It won't stop you from getting tracked. Also noscript blocks javascript which google analytics happens to use to achieve its functionality, thus blocking Google analytics javascript blocks google analytics.
Perhaps religion is the answer? If you firewall your country, Ala doesn't approve, boom 90% of blockades disbanded. The other 10% (China), well that's a tough one, how about blacklisting them on USA websites effectively cutting them off from 90% of the web?
The problem doesn't lie in the software but the motive, just like they try to control software piracy, the internet isn't that kind of place where you can say you can't have this and there is no other path to your goal, there almost always is.
$200 is what the DA says to make the defendant look like an undeniable monster, they do it ALL the time, it's called dramatization. Less people would care if all they were making was $5 a pop, but to sell an identity and get rich off it, whether they did or not, is how the DA is looking to pitch it.
P.S. I agree, $200 is way way over priced, these things come in lists of hundreds and thousands. I guess there is some data integrity guarantee, but not in that big of a price gap.
Those are all social traits, in my experience in the workplace, I've observed two types of people in relation to their job, people who like what they do and people who don't. Now stay with me, I'm going to propose a theory here: The people who like their jobs will like any jobs of the same or similar type of work (real general here, retail, IT, construction), not pay or rep, they actual work itself. Those that don't, are never content at ANY job, it's just not for them, they'll show up so they can eat and possibly be some of your best workers, but will never be content working a 40 hour. Thus, entrepreneurship is based on personality (genetics) rather than experience (upbringing), somebody can try and raise you to be a leader, but it's one of those things, you typically are or aren't and most people are content as not knowing the other side. This is why some people are happy to have A job and some people seem to want to compete with the sun. A family can also affect this but that typically leads to being at a 40 hour without contentment out of duty, often times viewed as a partial fail:)
Lol, you better get on your anon account to post your bs whoever you are. Science has shown that the same instinct that was hardwired into women say 10000 years ago of this caveman can club me over the head and have his way with me ahead of all other cavemen to pass on his genes makes his genes superior as there are no challengers. We've evolved as a society, but our instincts remain the same. To put it scientifically the most attractive female will go for the most attractive male BUT BUT BUT it's not the same, a woman judges a man not always on physical characteristics, but on wealth power, other positive traits, etc... make sense?
Need an example? Ask any of your friends in a relationship on what they see in the other person, guys unfortunately instinctively are a ways more shallow:)
Society allows us to make exceptions to this rule out of social circumstance, I'll let you ponder this one though.
P.S. I'd be an asshole if I tried to find "another" woman, get my drift? But I'm not...
And I'm curious, you can only be one of two things a virgin nerd or a woman? Which one?:P
Your referring to Darwinism, realize the zealots would nail you to the cross for this:)), but I get your point.
It's called reproduction. Failure in life results in decreased chance of reproduction, including the ultimate decreased chance, death.
I live in America dude, the bigger a piece of shit / asshole / degenerate you are, the more females like you increasing the chance of reproduction, so what you said but backwards. Success in life results in career work that leaves ppl w inept social skills and no time to use their limited ones, ah corporate America, controlling the population one peon at a time.
Let me see if I can put this on context for you: Life doesn't debug, debian does. All flaws and successes in debian, the team behind it is responsible for. Thus a newer module does not "eat" a weaker module, the debian team gets spammed w complaints on how much a feature sucks or how a bug is costing stability and then fix it in turn making the module better. *shrug* article is very vague as well.
It will happen and if it's trace probably a prison sentence. Hardware encryption is static rather than dynamic to the best of my knowledge. Of course loading software on the radio creates an interesting range of possibilities but then we're talking $$$$ probably.
1. DBAN / similar bootable cds 2. Linux Live Cd -- my fav also the most complex if you don't know unix command line I guess 3. Plug in as any non primary disk and run windows DOD based wipe software (google) on it. -- to speed things up consider getting a pci-e sata adapter so u can do many at once, the adapter is prolly cheaper than w/e they pay you.
I think the government standard is DOD, anything over is time consuming and overkill.
In your report you may want to include why DOD will work and why it's not recoverable, I'll leave that research to your already suspiciously lazy ass.
Encryption accomplishes the same thing, but you'd have to encrypt 3 times and show how the encryption is altering the disk's physical characteristics to make it unrecoverable.
Also I'm not sure where your coming from on disk space is expensive, it's at the cheapest it's ever been, and will only get cheaper till something replaces SSD and then that will be expensive and the rest of the hd's will get EVEN CHEAPER.
Depending on what you have on your harddrives the gov may accept DOD or it may only accept a physical shredder.
I'd challenge you on how are you going to show to the gov that you actually performed the DOD wipes?
Tbh, sounds like you don't know wtf your doing, I'd recommend bringing in a consultant to show you the light, this is very basic admin stuff and I don't have anything to do with the gov, just a lot of ppl's personal data in my position.
Lol, I must be talking to a non-IT person here, which is rare on this site, but here you go dude, let me break it down for you.
1. you don't need a separate computer 2. you need something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100049 at under $100, if you can't / don't want to do HDMI divide that cost by 2 for analog connections. Notice the IN & the OUT connectors. Find free software, though I hear the paid stuff is much nicer, I wonder if VLC can do this?:)
Seriously the reason I DONT do this is cause i can watch netflix on any device anywhere, not so w the dvr unless I want to set up a media server kind of app which to me on the trade off is worth $8 a month, not $16 though.
Ironic, according to the DEA, this guy didn't need intent to manufacture meth, just introducing iodine into the world was enough for them to shit him down, that's the equivalent of knowing what NI3 is and ordering yourself some iodine to use as a disinfectant.
A DVR is a device you pay ONE TIME FOR. A Tivo has a monthly charge. If the cable company chooses to jew you, that's between you and them, but a dvr has nothing to do with them, it has to do with intercepting and recording the signal.
Yes yes but you couldn't play need for speed 2 or duke nukem + linux GUIs were primitive to put it nicely and the install was the equivalent of a college sophomore level IT course.
The only people in 2011 who live around a television schedule are elementary school kids who haven't figured out how to use their parents dvr yet.
Netflix is great don't get me wrong, but TV has a lot more like... sports, news -- pretty lame, and movies that aren't on netflix or in my case movies on tv that are ONLY on dvd on netflix, which I don't pay the extra $8 for.
Yep I keep saying this, if you don't know wtf, then don't use your phone in a manner that compromises self. However, I'm unclear how this is legal, is it part of the smartphone UELA? Wasn't there something that required software vendors on smart phones to obtain user consent on what features are being transmitted since the iphone fiasco? If not there damn well should be, no idea who these fags are besides a now bulls eyed hack target with probably a newb admin.
My advice for Trevor: post your shit on tpb (or similar torrent site) and find some seeders, that way a take down notice doesn't do shit.
I feel ya dude, I work in an IT environment where sales is commission based, it can get annoying very fast. But, I've learned a lot about career and people and the skills I take with me are worth more to me than anything else I'm going to get from this job. So that's how I look at it, I don't try to go above and beyond, I do do a very very good job with what I do take on, but I'm also careful with what I take on so I don't f myself. I can replace a few ppl w code, but will I make more? will I get anything out of it? No, so I don't make it an option, if management wants something though, that's just how it is. In regards to people I don't like I make myself unavailable to them, which in turn makes their jobs harder and more stressful, but hey it's give and take, and if you don't respect IT, better hope you don't have someone like me on that team. I will make it unpleasant for you to contact me on purpose, but I do believe in karma. If it's my boss, same thing but always with room for growth out of the situation, what r they gonna do? fire me? that's what savings is for. If you can't save, you need more income cause in this economy living paycheck to paycheck can be nerve racking.
If somebody threatens you though, personally I would walk them outside and if they still had shit to say, they'd be hurting for a long time or I would, but that's me and that's probably not healthy, so my advice is to immediately contact HR, name some witnesses or if they do nothing you can file criminal charges, people are obligated by the justice system legally not to lie during a trial.
In regards to building the system, it's good you take pride in your work, that's a rare trait in IT sometimes, however realize this:
1. You got paid money to build that system. 2. The system you built is for somebody else thereby it is not "your" system.
ex. If my boss says take the system down for emergency reboot, I don't care, down it goes, if somebody has a problem, I refer them to my boss. No sense in taking responsibility for what isn't yours to begin with, I take pride and responsibility in the knowledge of my job rather than the production, nobody shares their commission w me if I give them super features that I work my ass off for, so why bother? My eyes and hands will thank me someday.
Easiest solution is to just leave, go consult for a while if your any good at business, it's important to recognize when you've outgrown a job, or when the glove doesn't fit don't wear it. However, remember you are at fault here too, no matter how bad your boss seems, establish boundaries and set responsibilities if you haven't done so, try a different approach than what your taking which seems like passive aggressive narcissism. If you want to take credit for your projects that you aren't getting credit for, when you complete, cc your bosses boss, I've never had an issue w doing that, then again I don't have a problem with uncredited work either I guess.
If you want to get at your bad manager there are techniques for this too, everything you just said with examples, statements and if possible witnesses all compiled into an essay like email tend to get people's attentions.
I have some life advice for you though, being a great coder is great, but you can't make it on code alone, me? I chose to learn a bit about psychology to bridge the gap between the 0's and 1's and human interaction. Seriously, I recommend stumbleupon > psychology / philosophy as a starting point.
Because I'm confident in working with people now as much as I am computers, or so I tell myself, I still have a million and one flaws, I am considering consulting and working my own hours because I do not fear that face to face interaction and confrontation with people that happens in business routinely.
Hope my post helps you, trust me I know the feeling:)

It was... coffee!
Data mine that.
No it doesn't....

Noscript does. And I guess they have to emulate google features to do it cause of the state of the web.

if it's built in you'd have to illegally mod it to not pay attention to the car start / stop, there's an extra wire that does this in car dvd players.

Lol, and what is managements reason for keeping this guy?
I'm sure there's coders on the teams who want to be project leaders, a project leader is a bit of a revolving door type position from what i've seen.
