I have switched to iTunes. It's got the first good AAC encoder I've ever used, has dead simple and easy CD ripping with secure mode available. The video problems I've seen so far have been related to the IRQ shared with the sound card which is just plain bad configuration on the part of whoever made the machine. The GUI is a tad slow on my unaccelerated laptop video, but not unbearably so. FLAC, Ogg, and MPC can all be easily exported to AAC. My MPCs went down by 50% in size. I can't really complain. That and the fact I can legitimately download music is really cool too. I've already bought music.
the thing is probably flashable by software, so you could theoretically add new features to the firmware by taking their source, modifying it, compiling it, and flashing it to the device.
This is exactly why they don't want to release code if possible. They don't want to have some fucktard ruin their own firmware and try to get linksys to reflash it for free under warranty.
I work in the food retail industry where there are two ways to compete against others. One, is to compete with price. An example of this is Winco or Walmart where you will probably get a super-low price but maybe not the best customer service. The other way to compete is through customer service. I work in one of these stores. The trick, is to make sure that the customers are able to easily find what they want, guarantee the product against failure and bad quality. This approach will attract more long-term customers as you build a positive relationship with the customer. They will gain confidence in your abilities to make sure that they get what they need, even if it isn't the cheapest around.
The point of that whole last paragraph, is to illustrate that the RIAA needs competition because its products are both expensive and they have terrible customer service. They are turning their customers into the enemy and getting away with it because you can't get away from them and buy from another store. There needs to be competitors for the RIAA. You may say "oh, there's indie labels!" hah. Indie music is shit. They can't afford to pay their artists well and the only people who will go with them won't be good ones.
In short, if there were two competing recording industry associations, we would not have the problems we face now.
Someone should patent a "systematic way of scanning peer to peer networks for the purpose of obtaining evidence for use in copyright litigation". Then we'd just sue the RIAA/MPAA whenever they use our patented method:)
Well, quoted from here, a ps2 has 6.2 gflops of CPU power in its FPU. There are 17,496 of these units. So that is roughly 108475 gflops of CPU power.
Quoted from a slashdot article here, there are "over 2000" Xeon 2.8 GHz in the render farm for ROTK. Pulled from google cache as intel's website is crap, here, I learned that a pair of 2.8 ghz xeons has 5.6 gflops of FPU power. Thus, 5.6 * 2000 is 11200 gflops of power for the render farm of ROTK.
Thus, take 108475 and divide by 11200 and those playstations equal roughly 9.68 ROTK rendering farms.
no offense is intended by this, but how many women genuises are there? It's not that they are trying to be sexist, it's just that there isn't a large enough sample size for them to be able to make a politically correct, equal opportunity survey.
yeah, and it sucked. And from what I read, it's full of spyware too. Seriously. I looked into it when the whole "everyone's gonna get it" happened. There ARE no alternatives. That's why there is a problem in the first place.
Even when that happens, people still won't because people are stupid.
Okay. Let's see it.
I hear that Mandrake Linux 9.2 suffers from this vulnerability too.
More likely the webserver crapped out from the hits. That, or an admin pulled the plug for using too much bandwidth. It's not free.
FUCK THIS! My kids are going to be homeschooled!

Trillian's MySQL server took a shit. Any chance I could get a copy?

They have these rights because they donated tons of money to the republican and democratic parties. They bought the congressional votes.
deLoreans exist. Of all places, I saw one at my cheesy workplace. It really shocked the hell outta me. But yeah they do exist.
I resent that. Us moose-human hybrids are quite well natured and happily bite only lily-pads. I mean come on, my antlers make great clothing racks.
Yeah, and they COME with the cool foam. I used one for a computer case once.
Damnit! And I just paid $29 the other day when I was ordering a laptop for school for a 64 mb one.
You're hanging out with the wrong chicks... chicks love snuggling up on my bed watching my flatscreen :)
The guy on the left must be a GNAA member.

My $10 charger I got off Newegg.com did. This isn't really anything special. I use rechargable batteries for my digicam and for my calculator/palm
well that makes sense considering it's being sponsored by the German government

Perhaps lacking in presentation, but short of a van with a waterbed, unequaled in utility.
Well said. I could definately agree on the utility part. Station wagons are great.
