Naw, the "may contain peanuts" is just a generic CYA. Being one of the Half Percent of the population with this life-threatening allergy, I know that even a dust sized particle could be fatal.
This warning "may contain peanuts" etc is placed on many products that are simply near, or which may have come into contact with, peanuts at the time of manufacture (i.e. Milky Way bars run on the same conveyor belt as Snickers, etc).
So corporations have [thankfully] started to add this warning to products so that customers will know whether there is a decent chance that the food has contacted peanuts at any time (and of course to cover their own asses from the lawsuits that would follow).
This allergy is becoming more and more common. Learning some of these basic facts could save a life or avoid a new case in a child you know.
Family member: "Why isn't my friend getting this email" Me: "Oh, well it looks like you typed a '1' instead of an 'l' in her email address" Family member: "Oh. Well, how does the internet know the difference?"
It took me 15 seconds or so to even think of how to respond, I was so suprised by the question.
Here in the dorms, I get quite a few questions, but I don't mind. I like working with computers enough that taking a few minutes to solve a problem is a nice study break. For bigger problems I just say that I'd be happy to do it when I have some free time.
Strangest computer problem at school? That would have to be when my floor's janitor brought his computer into my room unannounced and asked me why the RAM he installed wasn't working. To this day I wonder how he knew that I'd be able to help him out. [It was the wrong kind of RAM for his mobo btw]
200 of those are from bootleg concert CDs. 30 of those make up two full albums. I own both of these CDs. 70 are from various CDs that I own. 200 from various albums that I don't own, and don't want to own.
I also own about 100 full length CDs. I like them. There's nothing like holding a real album in your hand, reading liner notes, etc.
As for the mp3s in question... if I didn't have them, I'd just be listening to the radio more. I buy just as many CDs now as I did 5 years ago, I just listen to the radio a lot less.
More of the same, but there are already thousands of posts, so I don't feel so bad:
Why do I use Windows? 1.) I LOVE windows 2000... I won't touch anything earlier than Win2k/SP1, but it's solid. I've been running it for a year and a half and have yet to honestly kill the system. Why? How? I know how to run it. I'm picky about what I install and what I let run. It runs like a dream. Try it. Don't bash windows until you:
A. Learn how to run it.
B. Try Windows 2000 - it IS different. 2.) Windows (2000) is the better environment FOR ME. It's that simple. Some people prefer Macs, that's fine. I prefer PCs w/ Win2K. 3.) 3rd-party software. This is the biggest one. EVERYTHING is written for Windows... maybe it's just because Windows needs it and other OSs are more self-contained, but... Give me this on another platform and we'll talk.
Don't get me wrong. I like Linux. It's great fun to tinker with, and for everyday development g++ is a ton better than VisualStudio (for example)... This machine dual boots (win2k/linux). I'm a fan of OSX too... but it's all about what works for YOU.
The latest one is someone trying to sell me AT&T local phone service. I got that 5 second delay while the auto-dialer hooks you up with a person, and then she mispronounced my name
Sure, happens to me all the time.
I try to be civil, but I had been called by a guy from AT&T three times in one day, so I finally just said "I'm sorry sir, but I don't have a phone" and hung up.
they showed him in the first trailer for the two towers that was released a while ago
I noticed this as well...
So maybe the idea is that "The favorite character is coming back", but I don't know... Don't get me wrong, Gandalf was done VERY well... the acting, the casting, the costume, the lines... great job, but he's not the reason that I enjoyed the movies... I personally enjoyed the movies because ALL of the characters were done equally well... and I believe that if I were a movie-goer that had not read the books, I'd go back to see more of the story unfold, not just because I could see more of Gandalf.
I don't know, maybe I'm bitter. Maybe I think that people should read the books before seeing the movie, but I feel more like a fun suprise has been ruined for a lot of people. I know I'm not alone in thinking this, but I'd like to know if there are others in the community that would either back me up or shut me up.
Was anyone else suprised that they "gave away" the fact that Gandalf comes back... and comes back different none the less?
I first read the trilogy about 4-5 years ago, and loved it. Gandalf's return was a pleasant suprise.
Now, everyone will be sitting in the theatre, just waiting for that piece of film to roll... without much of a suprise element.
I think that these movies were done very well... I was pleasantly suprised after seeing FOTR, but to me it seems like a poor choice to give away this part of the plot with a trailer! I don't think that there's anyone out there right now saying "No, I'm not going to spend $9 to see -- Wait... Gandalf comes back???? Mark the calendar!"
> I guess they thought "Detroit Free Press" that meant it was free of anything to do with Detroit..
No, they were just in such a tense debate over whether this was "as in free beer" or "as in free speech" that they didn't bother to read the city name.
Yes, I use the 3.5in floppy drive every single day. It provides a quick alternative to a 2x CD burner for small files (although with my new 20x burner it's becoming less true).
Even more importantly... I've been working on an operating system for the last 18 months and a floppy disk is the only way to transfer files (operating system/application/data) from my development machine to my OS's dedicated machine.
If you wanna kill the floppy drive, just write network/cdrom/hdd drivers that will work with my OS first!
Please explain yourself. It IS possible to write code and PROVE that it will work.

This was probably my favorite:

On this computer I have about 500 mp3s.
200 of those are from bootleg concert CDs.

I guess you were never subjected to this beast

The piece of plastic between "Help" and F1
Absolutely aweful.
Dude, you must be worse off than this guy
You might want to brush up on your knowledge of good music.

Stop the Windows/Mac/NIX hate.

My middle school English class read "The Hobbit"... obviously we didn't (directly) buy the books, they were loaned to us from the school.
I liked it so much that I ended up buying a copy, along with the LOTR trilogy about a month later.
It's all about good writing.
If my school had said "fork over 8 dollars before you can read this book" I wouldn't have ever even considered reading the book(s).
