I've had an Armada V300 for 5 months (happily running Mandrake 8.0), and I have had the AC adaptor get hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold a few times. It only seems to be a problem when it's charging the battery. I'll be swiftly replacing the thing so I can sleep. (The inside of my house was destroyed by an electrical fire a year ago, I still am bothered tremensly by my cats playing with plastic bags)
I thought about this a bit a while ago. There's a farily simple soultion to this, all you have to do is set up a large number of low bandwidth channels broadcasting from diffrent offests. For example, you setup 64 16kbps streams all broadcasting in a loop in diffrent offsets. This way, everyone can get the full potential of thier bandwidth. Joe Modem user connects to one or two streams, while Leet Cable Dude connects to about half of them, and finishes much sooner because he's downloading from many channels at once. This also helps Joe Modem user, because he just has to wait for one of the other streams to catch up with the one he was downloading from, and in the mean time he can download from another stream which has data he hasn't gotten yet.
Alternitvy, you could split the file into many chuncks and have a seperate broadcast stream for each chunk.
It ought not to be to hard to setup somthing like this with a bit of creative programming.
You don't sound like you've used Windows ME. I have, and it's an utter peice of shit which crashes every other hour. I am very bitter about using it. WindowsXP is supposed to be as stable as 2k. I could work much more efficely if my computer didn't crash every other hour. I guess this is why I use Linux on my "work" (schoolwork actualy...) laptop. The only time I've had my work interupted on it was a battery failure.
Have you forgoten about digital video? I'm sure you could find a place that has encoded it and is offering it for download. I'd have done it myself (I've got a vedio capture card), but I forgot to record it.
I've been using Mandrake since 7.1 and love it. It's amazing the improvements that are made between releases. When I took my box to an installfest put on by the local LUG it took the guys there an hour to get the sound working right with my on-board chip. With Mandrake 8.0 it just worked. I now have a slightly old (500MHz/128MB) laptop that I ended up wiping windows from. It's been upgraded to XFree86 4.1.0 + KDE 2.2, and runs great. I am hoping to upgrade it and my desktop box tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to convert my ext2 to ext3.
Windows ME had been crashing on me about every other hour for the longest time, but it's not too bad now. Perhaps it's noticed that it's partition has shrunk again and is trying to win me over? Or prehaps it's no longer simulating problems to get back at me since I got rid my ext2 filesystems(switched to ReiserFS which uses a diffrent partition type). Mabey it was my ZoneAlarm upgrade? (The last version had a NASTY memory leak)
Perhaps Windows should have an EYE-DEE-TEN-TEE protection switch which is enabled by default and requires passing a computer knowlage test (built into wndows of course) to disable.
Linux of course already has somthing like this, it consists of GUI config tools and reminding the user not log in as root. That's one of many things I like about Linux, it can baby you a bit at first, but as you learn, you start to not use the babying it provides as much.
I still don't belive in encouraging Joe User to run Linux because Joe User doesn't know squat about computer security, and doesn't understand the danger of script kiddies with password crackers. It just doesn't sink in that although nobody would ever guess that their password is "rzdx" there are plenty of people that would love to use a password cracker to break it and abuse their computer.

Actualy this reminds me of an idea I had for my home. I thought, "Gee Yotta, you could spend $400 upgrading you box, then have it run stuff for a few $300 boxen around the house." Then I looked in my wallet..... (broke high school student)
Bah, perhaps they just are behind sechedule with the dubbing? If it does end up being canceled then i'll just rent the subs from the local anime rental place. I'd also like to see cartoon network show a dub of trigun. Perhaps they should start a spinoff anime network?
You can set it with Java Script, but there's a prompt, and you can't conceal it using the method I know. I suspect it's an actual java applet that they use.
You ever gone to a porn site and later noticed that you hompage has been chaned? Anyone know how they manage to do that to IE without a prompt? I just want to know so I can filter it. Really.;)
A while ago I found a nifty perl script called 'gotmail' which logs onto hotmail and fetches your messages to your user mailbox or fowards them to another email account depending on your prefrence. I have it setup as a cron job, and it works very well. I don't know if it handles attachments, the docs don't say, and I haven't bothered to test it.
I suppose it's what I get for using a calculator and not thinking about weather or not the awnser makes sense. If you count each char as 6.5 bits (stadard typeable keyspace is 96 chars) you get 227.5 bits which is still a major pain to crack.

no, netscape died because they couldn't afford to give it away.
what OS version / Browser / Linux Distro?
use java / test your code... / again, java

StarOffice works nicely, and is free (beer).

That's what piracy is for!
I think I'd better move to Canada, since I'm a "dangerous terrorist/hacker".

A printer port with a relay board setup should be able to pull that off.
Try searching google for GNU-phantom-home
Microsoft is seeming more and more like the borg.

At least now people will recognize windows for the virus it is.
This proposed system seems like it would make using any non-MS operating system impossible or very hard.

This looks like a great time to plug tinews.net!

Yeah, that would work, but what happens if he figures it out?

Oh, cool, somewhere where I can use my jar of napalm on my C64 without pissing off the neihbors!
They might have a reason for having thier door open, But thier box has bo good reason to have a big fat security hole.

I was tired and mis-calculated. Just a stupid mistake.
