I hate to break it to you but sharing is not
pirating. Your Bell Labs to Berkley analogy is broken because they agreed to share their code.

If you pirate someones software it is theft.
Pure and simple. No amount of handwaving will
change that. You can tell yourself all sorts of stories to make it sound nice,
but at the end of the day it's theft.

The F/OSS has ideals of sharing at its core
Closed source & Shareware means if you want it,
you must pay for it. The guy who writes the code
is the only one who has the right to decide that.
    Not you or anyone else.

Sorry, but freedom of religion has nothing to do with Christian beliefs.

It has everything to do with the persecution of the Protestant/Puritan breakaway groups in
England & France. The predominantly Roman Catholic guys in charge (Kings, Popes etc)
were very busy locking these guys up & worse
This is why many of them left for the new world.

That is why your constitution makes very specific statements about religious freedom. The wanted to make sure that they never had to go through that again!

It's also worthwhile remembering that this was basically an argument between Christian sects!

It is possible to build a Fantasy style future
    using SF technology.
Didn't Ursula Le Guin do a series called 'Dragon rider' which ran along these lines.

David Brin did a book called 'The Practice Effect' which also mixed the SF & Fantasy genre quite well.

I wonder what other Fantasy creature a good

I hate these bowling ball & trampoline metaphores.
The reason is that it's trying to describe gravity
    by using gravity.
IE Place a bowling ball on your trampoline.
Place a tennis ball also on the trampoline.
Gravity will now drag the tennis ball toward
the bowling ball because of the slope in the material & the earths gravity.

This senario still doesn't explain to me why
gravity is the way it it.
