I hate to break it to you but sharing is not pirating. Your Bell Labs to Berkley analogy is broken because they agreed to share their code.
If you pirate someones software it is theft. Pure and simple. No amount of handwaving will change that. You can tell yourself all sorts of stories to make it sound nice, but at the end of the day it's theft.
The F/OSS has ideals of sharing at its core Closed source & Shareware means if you want it, you must pay for it. The guy who writes the code is the only one who has the right to decide that. Not you or anyone else.
Sorry, but freedom of religion has nothing to do with Christian beliefs.
It has everything to do with the persecution of the Protestant/Puritan breakaway groups in England & France. The predominantly Roman Catholic guys in charge (Kings, Popes etc) were very busy locking these guys up & worse This is why many of them left for the new world.
That is why your constitution makes very specific statements about religious freedom. The wanted to make sure that they never had to go through that again!
It's also worthwhile remembering that this was basically an argument between Christian sects!
How about GM humans to give us Dwarfs, elves, Ogre's/. Has already given us trolls:)
Hmmm... Not sure what you could use to build dragons or trents.
It is possible to build a Fantasy style future using SF technology. Didn't Ursula Le Guin do a series called 'Dragon rider' which ran along these lines.
David Brin did a book called 'The Practice Effect' which also mixed the SF & Fantasy genre quite well.
I wonder what other Fantasy creature a good gene mechanic could build us?
Not trying to take a jab, but.... I hate these bowling ball & trampoline metaphores. The reason is that it's trying to describe gravity by using gravity. IE Place a bowling ball on your trampoline. Place a tennis ball also on the trampoline. Gravity will now drag the tennis ball toward the bowling ball because of the slope in the material & the earths gravity.
This senario still doesn't explain to me why gravity is the way it it.
You don't actually need batteries You can use a phase locked inverter to feed back into the grid. Effectivly running you meter backwards! This means that when you are using power at peak times you draw power from the grid At off peak times you push power back into it.
Was walking to work the other day and heard a sexy female voice behind me say "Hi, how are you?" (she had such a nice voice too). I turned to look at her, she looked at me I said, "Not bad, you?"
Then I notice the bloody cell phone & ear piece She walks off , giggling & telling other person all about it.
Sorry... IBM never released a 'home' machine, they were targeted at small business And they shipped it with PC-DOS Back in those days MS-DOS was the cheap 'n nasty clone:)
Dunno about your linksys card, but the DriverLoader software works great for my TI acx100 based card. You can score a trial licence from the site, good for about a month. then you have to cough up $20 for the regular licence.

Current Trek is a good reason to get rid of
all the brain dead marketroids
Big breasts & tight fitting costumes should
be the hook for the show not the main plot.
Or bomb two whole countries back into the stone age?

More than enough material...

Seems to work well, even under the 2.6 kernel
