An associate just picked up an MSI K4 Ultra during lunch. It has Rubycon (jp) 3300uf and some G-Luxon (tw) caps in the power converter and a few Nichicon (jp) scattered around the board.
G-Luxon has this insightful bit on their news page:
recently, a rumor says that some of the customers (I company in USA, F company/ M compnay/ S company in Japan) are worrying about the quality of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor from Taiwan Manufacturers. It has resulted in a storm during Taiwanese suppliers. We are badly worrying this ill news is getting to harm LUXON'S reputation.
According to the information, it was caused by some of manufacturers- L company and Y company, have failures in their products and it was raised by that L company and Y compnay used the electrolyte P-50, P-51 which are from a company named "LENYAN". For this reason, many customers misunderstand all of Taiwan Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor Manufacturers are using the electrolyte including P-50 and P- 51.
LUXON definitely understands that the electrolyte is one of the most important materials for Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor. In order to ensure our reliability and innovative technology, LUXON always develops the electrolyte by ourselves. We hereby declare that:
LUXON ELECTRONICS CORPORATION DO NOT HAS ANY BUSINESS WITH "LENYAN" AND DO NOT EVER USE THE ELECTROLYTE CONTAINING P-50 AND P-51.
We are sorry to hear that this ill rumor released by unknown defamer has caused unnecessary anxiety to our customers. We have to make the truth clear. We guarantee that our products do not use the electrolyte including P-50 and P-51.
Sincerely wish having your always support and encouragement to LUXON as usual.
I just checked out an Asus A7V8X and it's popped with Rubycon and Nichicon, both japanese, caps. Sigh of relief. I'll be picking one of these up in December and entrusting it with a XP 2600/333
On a side note, there's a fried powersupply at work here with Rulycon caps. Imitations, surely.
Doh! Yeah, I know how to spell electrolyte (and even some stuff about dialectrics.) I was more focused on getting details right and assembling information.
This is a bit of a bugger, though, because myself and a coworker are shopping for new boards, at the moment, and concerns over lower grade commodity components to increase the manufacturer's profit is a worry.
...will be useful to those trying to keep track of their.NET fees and licensing renewals.
Wonder if it's real.
And you'll know it's real if you see a EULA like this, considering MSFT's near complete win on the antitrust *cough* remedy *cough*
By reading this message you surrender your first born; all worldly goods; all thought past, present and future; all rights granted or not usurped by your country's constitution; and last but not least, your soul to Microsoft.
but i wouldn't go as far as suing:p
Well, maybe if you were in a tight labor market and/or the job offer was something you were really focused on.... but still, shouldn't you get a phone call, rather than email, since email is so unreliable anyway (with the possible exception of 100+ spams a day, which is quite reliable, thank you very much) Heck, I'd be on the phone myself, trying to see how things were going. Maybe even request confirmation via FAX, since fax, unlike email, generates a confirmation it was received at the other end.
Any ISP should have a disclaimer anyway that email and other account matters are provided as is, etc.
But that's what morally corrupt dictatorships do and we're not one of those, we're from a democracy, right?
oh, great, next you'll give the whole thing about where we are from away, just why don't you wave the flag, show 'em a picture of your mom and ask if they'd like some apple pie! fer chrissake!
Ok, we cannot disclose who you are, what you did or who you did it to, who we are, what we are here for, what you may or may not be charged with, where we are taking you or anything else. We're not even sure if we are at the right address, but just come with us.
Won't this encourage companies to leave themselves vulnerable, if potential customers and investors are unaware of such lapses?
Case in point... AbiWord vs. PayPal.
I'd certainly like to know that the California State agency which kept my personal information had been hacked into. Same for anywhere I have or might be placing sensitive information.
It became something of a joke to pretend to have written one thing, and "corrected" it to something more political correct, but to have 'accidentally' left the original intact due to a malfunctioning terminal setting.
Correct, the attempt at light humor was intentional and the ^H has been used a number of times in slashdot articles for similar reasons, humor or acceptability.
My familiarity began with the following statement in RSTS Basic:
1000 OPEN "KB:" AS FILE 1%, MODE 2%
Which echos control sequences with the caret and uppercase letter. Informative, alas, off-topic.
What is holding up shipping of new tech toy^H^H^Hitems, e.g.:
Serial ATA Hard drives, Seagate appears to have moved ST380023AS (80G) and ST3120023AS (120G) back to Late November from Late October.
Lagging production of AMD 2700+ and 2800+ CPUs
something else I forgot, too much beer last night...
Is this likely a case of production problems or are manufacturers and distributors trying to clear inventory that's already in the pipe? It seems more items are falling into the vapor category, and I'm not convinced it's production problems. Are there more paper launches in lean times than, say an overheated market like 1999?
I removed my bank information from PayPal after reading the original post, and went to some effort to contact PayPal with my concerns about account protection, etc.
Considering I've received a number of automated or canned responses, I'm not sure I want to return my bank information to their care. Credit cards offer good enough protection and they collect fees for the use of them. I'm puzzled why there's a spending limit, other than as some sort of blackmail to get my banking information. Maybe I'll set up a token checking account somewhere with $10 in it and use that, since the one with my paycheck deposited in it has to cover a lot of ground and I can't affored 23+ days haggling over getting stolen money returned.
Ah, so that's it. Big grey box, with 'Click' in it. I deleted all flash related dlls from both computers I use, much to my relief, and haven't looked back. (I usually disable animated gifs, too, as whizzy stuff on webpages has worn out its welcome in my view.)
I get this big grey box which says 'Click' in the center of it. Um. Not really my thing, you know, but I have been to the Guggenheim so I do have a partially open mind on things artistic, so I'll keep my narrow-minded, vitriol filled opinion to myself.
The problem is Hollywood (or whatever rock they scrape these actors and writers out from under) is terrified to take chances. Ugly, plain actors, who really CAN ACT and gritty writing, which doesn't tell the story so plainly that even a drooling idiot can follow, aren't the "safe" TV is looking for. Hence the pablum Sci-Fi.
Notice how well Seinfeld worked? None of the four are really model material, but they sure could act and make people laugh. Try as they might have, even the original Star Trek crew (with the exception of Nurse Chapel, woo!) were as wretchedly hand-picked from modeling agencies as today's casts. Ok, some good looking women, but damn, even good looking women can bore you to death, and much of these shows do.
I have to see what uniform actors are wearing to tell the difference between shows, it's all the same!
Advice to anyone thinking about making TV or film: Scout some playhouses for real talent. Is there any wonder some of the better actors are Shakespearean? At least some people make an effort, too bad they don't harvest more true talent, rather than the people who show up on Star Search.
I didn't even bother turning that schlok on after seeing that horrible movie.
Ok, the movie was pure camp, but it wasn't a terrible way to lounge away an afternoon munching popcorn. I'd never pay to see the current TV run cut-of-cloth as a movie. Yecch.
With the loss of Farscape, SG1 is possibly the best straight up sci-fi on TV- and the last show on the SciFi channel I watch.
Sounds like a real indictment of TV SciFi. Sorry, Taco, you were born way to late. Even the original Flash Gordon isn't this bad.
Get OpenSource and the problem goes away! Gee, wasn't it Mr. Balmer who was bad-mouthing OpenSource? Small wonder, now we see the evil plan unfurl like a roll of used toilet paper.
A good warning to people to actually pay attention to what these travesties actually say.
When my former employer went belly-up they sold licenses as they were assets of the company. What Microsoft is, in act, doing is making their software a non-asset, consumed immediately and utterly worthless beyond that. That's a pretty piss-poor business plan, for both parties.
Here I sit, in the middle of Silicon Valley, wearing Airwalks, shorts, and a t-shirt. I doubt I'd ever be pressured into wearing a suit.
Yeah, well I sit in the middle of the valley, too, and all it takes is a change in management, not too uncommon with all the restructuring these days. All you need is some fashion nazi as your department head and it's off to Mervyn's and Penney's you go.
When I started I was wearing t-shirts, blue jeans and sneaks, shorts not allowed. My old job in Watsonville, for Skyway (a truly cool place when I started there) allowed shorts.
The best science fiction shows on television never seem to make it... I suppose I just have an odder taste than most.
Or refined, or mature, or analytica, expecting something of quality or even something which isn't just more shallow pseudo sci-fi-drama junk.
I could sit through show after show of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, which are masterpieces compared to today's stuff, and most of those shows originally aired well before my time, I just catch them on cable and am completely fascinated with how well they told a story in 30 minutes (less commercial breaks) I've seem enough of today's "writing" to leave my TV off and go outside to play. It's going to be tough when I get my knee worked on and am stuck inside for a while. I guess there's always coding up those projects I've never had time to get around to.:-)
...I'm continually puzzled why Slashdot is a constant source of NYT readership. Maybe C'Taco and C'Neal should make an arrangement with them, so the faithful don't have to see that screen all the time. Sheesh...
That said, I'm waiting for the video game that offers full human sacrifice, demon sex, etc., but I know, in my heart, that it'll be passé before the year is out.
Each generation attempts to outdo and shock the sensibilities of the previous generation.
Bans on Cellphone usage while driving are all well and good, but it's also covered in my state (in the USA) by distracted driving statutes. It all amounts to a very small hill of beans when there are few, if any, police or deputies out busting people who chatter or argue with other occupants while driving, and there are, by some rough estimates up to 50% of drivers on the phone during rush hour. Just sit at a light around here and watch the people making left turns with one hand on the wheel and another on their phone.
So Enter Bluetooth and maybe it gets around the laws, but if you drive distracted you still are violating law.
If the RIAA quit spending their money trying to shoot down...
Ok, now IANAL, but Hilary Rosen is, I'm not sure of Jack Valenti's status, so I just refer to him as the RIAA Whore. Assuming the industry came to it's senses, these people would be out of work. Don't you think it's silly of them to advise the music industry to put them out of a job?
I'm having a bad speling day...

Hopefully MSI and ASUS use Rubycon or Panasonic.
Any ISP should have a disclaimer anyway that email and other account matters are provided as is, etc.
don't tell them that!
What, the bit about an agency or a government?
any of it!
Right. You're under arrest for hacking.
don't tell them what they're under arrest for!
We can't just arrest them, can we?
we do it all the time!
But that's what morally corrupt dictatorships do and we're not one of those, we're from a democracy, right?

Only if he'd lept from a plane with it, in Washington State...
