I take 'photographs'. Yep it's a distinction. It's also why I've taken about 13,000 photographs since I switched to Digital back in March of this year.

A 4gb CF card holds (on my 10D) about 530 photographs. I transfer said card to two battery backup units- a 20gb and a 40gb.

On my trip to St. Thomas I came back with a little over 2300 photographs; several of which I edited and stitched together to make massive panoramas. A panorama consisting of 14 frames tends to take quite a bit of disk space in the RAW format- and each time you want to capture it again that means 14x6mb each...

So anyways, yes I'm interested in this if it'll actually download the info. If not, I'll stick to my battery backups and leave my laptop at home.

WHEN they make an LCD that acts as a lambertian light source they will see a change for the better. Until they do this NEC monitor (Don't know if we've tested it yet, to be honest, but I had heard we had some NECs in that were pretty good- and that meant 9 Delta E's compared to the 20 before) is a nice word processor doc, but never ever ever will it be certified for imaging...

  14. Yes- I do know on Thin CRTs to Challenge LCDs in 2005 · · Score: 3, Informative

The best system for eyestrain is one that incorporates the entire room lighting environment. You don't say how long you want to code, but looking at high contrast imagery requires subdued background lighting that matches your monitor.

CRTs generally deliver the Lmin (lowest brightness level) and an almost good enough Lmax (Colour CRTs don't hit the high range, unfortunately).

Basically no numbers because I'm not sure what's proprietary, but I'd tell you to choose CRTs hands down.

The LCD model that pretyt much every cheap LCD follows is innapropriate for large hours in front of the screen. The impulse that describes how the light appears to your eyes isn't the way your brain is designed to view things- the image doesn't 'decay'.

So if you light the wall behind your computer evenly with about, say, 2x15 watt bulbs from about 10 feet off, that should be sufficient illumination (note the rest of the room is dark) to keep your eyes in a 'relaxed' state. Your monitor should be out of cutoff (deep blacks) so that your eyes stay adjusted to the whole range. The bezel itself could be painted grey, but that isn't critical.

That isn't to say what they accomplished isn't impressive- it is. But it lacks the flavour and the art of someone that's striven for a better capture method. I salute them for driving it with a servo- thats grand. Now take that setup out to some impressive scene and photograph that (Say the Tetons of Gigapixel fame) and lets see what it can do.

And if I can drive that servo with my palm pilot, plus some 26aH batteries, then I'm even more interested ;)
