This could be the only way us international users can "buy" songs from the Music Store. Buy it for you kid? Bah, sell it to a foreigner and get a profit.
I expect this to be huge on eBay anytime soon. If someone wanna sell me a song I'm very interested, haven't even had the chance to try it out..
Apple allready have killer-apps for bluetooth. A syncing solution that actually works is one.
I talked to a friend of mine who's a software developer at Ericsson and even though he hates Macs he agrees that Apple have implemented one of the best Bluetooth stacks around and included great software for it.
The best pen I have is a cheap blue pen I snatched a few years back from the Microsoft booth at CEBiT. It has a huge Microsoft logo and.NET printed all over. I use this pen several times a week and I must say this is the best damn Microsoft-product I've ever seen. If they had this kind of quality in their operating systems the world would be much different.
Imagine the day when all games are delivered in this way. You get the best OS available and instantly into action with your hardware fully utilized.
For the gamers that always want maximum frames per second this must be a dream. Nothing extra claiming memory and other resources in the background. It's just the game and you! Not to mention how this would boost Linux game development.
Well, with MandrakeSoft's financial situation in mind it's this alternative or no distro at all. If more people signed up for the MandrakeClub maybe it wouldn't have come to this.

There's an interesting article describing all the details about the benchmarks and how they actually prove that this is something beyond what Intel has to offer.
XServe might be nice but OS X Server is not. I've just spent the last few weeks upgrading OS X Server and migrating OS9 clients to OS X and it was pure hell. I could write an essay about all the troubles we experienced. The OS X Server manual, first off, is pure crap. Information is missing and just crossreferences everywhere. But who needs a manual, right? The bundled server apps, like Workgroup Manager, is extremely buggy and crasches now and then. It also caused the entire Netinfo database to be corrupted. I had a backup of course, but it would load. I had the reinstall the entire server. Then halfway through we discovered undocumented missing feature. We wanted to use netboot without local disks as you can do fine on many unixes. OS X Server doesn't support this. You MUST use a local drive. And even nicer: once you have a working netboot disk image, there's no way you can upgrade it.
I think I'll stop here, there were many other strange bugs and missing features... finally got it to work after devious bootscript hacking and trial n errors.
I REALLY hope Apple makes a better job with Panther server. What they have now doesn't feel mac'ish at all. I love OS X (and apple generally), but OS X Server is really bad and can easily be replaced by Linux.
Apple have an interesting "solution". They release many applications as betas. We've seen Safari, iChat, iSync and some others as betas. There can be bugs and there's absolutely no support available. But most people are satisfied anyway.
Cool, Then you can construct some kind of hacked MIDI keyboard that just plugs into the computer you want to compromise. Press B# three times and you get the admin password.
is the iTunes Music Story only available in the US. Why, oh why, can't the music labels understand that this is a big thing? We Europeans are more than willing to pay for music over the net.
You need a US-registered credit card. Shouldn't there be some easy way to get such a card. Like www.americancreditcardsforsale.dot.:-)
This might sound like a flamebait but real innovation isn't coming from microsoft or Linux hackers.
Innovations for windows are created by other companies and Linux hackers seem to concentrate on making the innovations for windows work in Linux.
I'd love to see something NEW in Linux, like Apple's newly revealed Exposé but it never shows up. I'm probably hoping for Enlightenment to prove me wrong.
The new Finder is metal now so it looks more like the other iApps, especially iTunes. I don't think it's a problem since most of the Finder is whitespace anyway. It's not there now, but I really hope Apple makes it easy to choose different interfaces in the full release.
Personally I don't like the idea of having the "shortcuts" to the left like in windows xp. I'm pretty sure it's just something Apple created so windows switchers would feel at home. In windows the shortcuts are direly needed since everything is so difficult to find. In OS X the stuff are placed logically, no shortcuts needed. Plus, you can already in Jaguar place shortcuts in the top menu.
This is really important for Apple. There are extremely many professional Mac users in advertising and graphic production that still use OS9 just because of QuarkXPress.
Now, they're not only buying OS X.. they need to replace their old G3's with new hardware. Good business for Apple!
And also Apple today reduced the price of their Powerbook lineup. The 12" model now only costs $1.599. That's not much for a really sweet computer. I've tried it and it's gold for any student, especially if you need to run Unix apps.
Seriously, this is really bad news. I'm pretty sure that the extremely easy access to software for windows is one of the main reasons why so many use the crap instead of free/open source software.
And there could be serious copy protections, but I get the feeling that many software companies WANT their software to be pirated (by home users) so the same people want to use say MS Office or Photoshop at their workplace.
I call for better international laws against piracy, but I admit I've no idea how/if it would work.
I read on a swedish forum about a guy who owns (or at least works for) a rather small music label. He's a great Mac fan and of course wanted his label to be available on Apple's Music Store. He spent an entire day trying to talk to someone at Apple who could help him. No one had a clue (in Sweden or the US) what to do.
It seems as you gotta be Steve's buddy to get your label online.

Contrary to what you do, most people get their free "serialz" from Kazaa that unlocks the software so they can use it after 30 days.
I replaced windows with Linux at my last job and was very satisfied with that. But you and me are far from representative for the masses.

Hope they get it for us in Europe soon too... not that I could find any of my (non-mainstream) music available yet.
