I was playing around in the "IT-bubble" for some years until eventually the company was almost dead. No sales = no profit.:)
Then I decided to do the only good thing; go back to school. At the same time I run my own (very small scale system development/management) company to get some extra cash. So in some years I'll hopefully have graduated computer science when there are more jobs.
Apple's iChat use the same protocol as AIM (OSCAR if I'm not mistaken) and there have been some rumors about video for it too. Perhaps Apple and AOL are working together on this one?
OS X and Mandrake are both using CUPS. That means the printer will show up in your printer list even without Rendezvous as CUPS broadcasts the info itself. I have such a setup right now and it works flawlessly.
I would be interesting to see what Mandrake have cooked up with ZeroConf support. As far as I know there's only two ways to advertise services using ZeroConf on a Linux box; with a Java program or mdnsd. I wonder if MandrakeSoft have written their own software? More info can be found here.
I've been waiting for one large Software vendor to bring out a Desktop OS that can compete with Windows. The most obvious choice would be to use Linux and Wine for out-of-the-box compatibility with Windows for apps and games. I know this has been done before (Lindows blah blah) but what if someone LARGE with MONEY like Sun or IBM does what Apple allready have; a Unix based Desktop OS for the masses. I know lot's of people would buy this when it runs on cheap hardware, is windows compatible and is backed by a large and respected company.
What ever happened to the KDE sync program that would sync QPE/Opie based Linux handhelds?
One thing I'd like to see is some company selling OS upgrades that lets people throw away Microsoft Pocket PC/Windows CE and replace with Linux. But then there must be a good syncing solution for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
About two years ago Amazon (US) accidentaly put a book for sale at 10 cents. I ordered it for that price and got it delivered without problems.
Perhaps it's only recently they've changed their price policy? Ff you've got a receipt with the "faulty" price and money drawn from your account they should also deliver it. Their mistake.
Still there's a huge different looking at OSS and actually migrating from microsoft systems.
We've had reports like this in sweden for a while but unfortunately it seems as it's just a cool thing to say for the incompetent CIO "yeah we're looking at linux. once it gets better we might switch.". In my experience there are many bad CIOs that are trying to cover their incompetence by claiming they know something about OSS.
Build a library instead? With these iBooks each kid have their own personal library at their fingertips. In this age it's so important to learn how to gather information using the internet.
Seems like a pretty simple thing to do, it would save a lot of IT support's time
I doubt that Microsoft would want to save time for IT support. There's a huge business for supporting and servicing MS products and it would be unwise to upset them.
If they were in for that strategy they would surely have done it allready. One of the most humorous things with Outlook is that it warns about sending.EXE files and automatically blocks these files. But lets all kinds of scripts get through.
I worked until recently at a company with close contacts with Sony Ericsson. We had many of the phones long time before they hit the market. The T68i uses much better plastics and is more steady than its predecessor. The T68 model doesn't feel very robust if you squeeze the phone. Still you can upgrade the T68 to get exactly the same software as the new model.
To get back on subject the P800 is a really cool phone, a bit large perhaps but the best smartphone I've tried so far. The camera has really good quality and the phone has fast enough CPU to give smooth frames per secons - not at all like other cameras in phones if you've tried them.
If only the P800 could sync with iSync I'd get one today.
You probably mean the new P800 smartphone from SonyEricsson. I've tried it and it's really amazing. The camera rocks, not only for still pictures, video too. Good programs. The phone it self is not too big and the OS is fast, responsive and beautiful. Thank God they never cooperated with microsoft as they talked about some years ago.

KDE 3.1 Released
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
Dear Mr. Troll,
Mac OS X has a unique look while both KDE and Windows uses a very similar interface.
The new thing with this KDE release is that it now really drags away from Windows with excellent icons and windowstyles.
I, and many people, have used this themes for a long time.
It's really interesting to see how much the german government has spent on KDE development. Wish more government would do that.

What about an Open Source implementation of DRM? :)

If you choose to run Slackware, wouldn't you know how to do this?
:-P
There are so many people that wanna run Linux and heard that slack is the coolest and most "pro" way to do it. Sickens me.

"Since the chips contain no power source they can only transmit their data when within 3 feet of a receiver"
Uhm, could someone explain how that works? How can they function without power? Draw energy from body heat? Uh.

Excellent work! Is this Open Source by the way?

But the thing is probably that micro$oft said this thing would be impossible since winxp is so secure. Whatever.

The PowerPC CPU can't be compared to Intel/AMD's since they operate very differently.
Still, yes, Macintoshes are falling behind when it comes to raw speed. But cleverly designed software makes it a lot faster to work with a Mac.

Because it's mainly for Linux users? Because Linux users can download good software from sourceforge and don't want the latest fps game?
Or am I the only one who actually buy my CD's?
