  1. the timeline on Limitations and All, Chromebooks Appear To Be Selling · · Score: 1

2011 - netbooks sell like crazy
2012 - people realize netbooks are unusably slow, have too small of a screen, and have double the failure rate of laptops plus no shops will fix them
2013 - people buy Chromebooks and tablets
2014 - people realize they can't run any useful software on a Chromebook and it's a single-use style device that lives in its own little fairy magic land and stop using it. They also realize that you can't type on tablets so they're useless for almost everything.
2015 - Microsoft realizes they fucked up and releases an actually good Windows 9 and everyone buys PCs

The US legal system is a fucking joke. Some hot shot lawyer would try some bullshit tactics to get him off and then be a famous, high paid defense attorney for the rest of his life. It's basically American Idol for lawyers when high profile cases come up. Everyone everywhere knows he did it so skip the stupid trial.
Oh and in case you didn't notice, HE'S NOT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN! You think the constitution applies to everyone worldwide? Go ask everyone worldwide what they think of us passing laws that pertain to them even though they don't live here.

I wouldn't count on an article that claims "The cloud of burning aluminium powder means victims often die from asphyxiation before the pressure shreds their organs." to be terribly accurate. Considering the blast wave is about 2 seconds later and humans can hold their breath for at least 30 seconds, that's absurd.
Oh yeah, and then there's the fact that thermobaric weapons don't produce a vacuum wave. Internal organs are pounded by a high air pressure shockwave which is literally the exact opposite. Other than that, it's spot on. Great reporting.

  5. Why does anyone still use Amazon? on Are Amazon Vine Reviews of Technical Books a Joke? · · Score: 0

I get every single thing I need online from ebay at a lower price or newegg. In fact, I'm one of Newegg's Egg Expert reviewers. Unlike Amazon's bullshit system, Newegg ships us reviewers the product itself that we can keep for free and then we write a review about it. Now THAT is a group of expert reviewers. Vine is a joke. Amazon's web layout and search function are awful and I still can't tell if a product is coming from Amazon or some random guy somewhere. Shipping times? Who the hell knows. They just make something up. Why does anyone actually still use that old dinosaur Amazon and their 1990's website layout?

  7. another question on everyone's mind on Interviews: Ask James Gosling About Java and Ocean Exploring Robots · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Do you feel personally responsible for the complete disaster that Java has been in the last 4 years or blame Oracle? It has cost millions of dollars in virus removal services. And don't forget the millions in fraudulently stolen or extorted funds from Java-based viruses going straight to terrorist organizations, drug dealers, and violent regimes in 3rd world countries. It is the single worst thing that has happened to internet browsing in the last few years and it's your product. So your fault or Oracle's?

That's BS, it's Windows 8's fault entirely. This study doesn't count used PC resale or a drop in computer (scrap) recycling levels. Tablets replace laptops, not PCs. There is no drop because of tablets. It is completely Windows 8's fault.

I'm confused. Everything supports 3D printing. There's probably a Linux application for it. You just have the company write a driver, install 3D software that works with it, and hit print. The operating system is irrelevant. All they're doing is putting a big "sue me, I have the most money" sign on them with a picture of a 3D printed gun under it. Now they're just getting desperate. I thought 8.1 was a rush fix like Windows 7 from Vista but nope. Hopefully THIS TIME heads will roll and they'll replace clueless morons with reasonable design leads at MS.
