Woo, HTC's gonna be pretty mad when they discover that I've been swapping radio ROMs and especially pissed that I've had to flash buggy radio ROMs to unlock other parts of the phone!
Not that we can change the code much on those binary blobs, but swapping radio's around can get you improved GPS fix time and improved radio performance, anyway.
When I was 16, I discovered that with a ruler, an exacto knife, and some elmer's glue you could make up your own checks. They also had "MAC Check" machines that would scan a check - even from a non-customer - and cash them.
When I was 19, I worked in a junk mail plant that at times printed the 25% interest rate personal checks that credit card companies send out to new cardholders. All night we would watch "CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW $100,000 CREDIT LIMIT!" with 6 checks attached go whizzing by at 5MPH. When that roll of checks breaks, printed-but-junk checks dump on the floor, 7 feet per second, and if I wanted, I could pocket the sonsabitches and spend like hell - before the recipient even activated their new card. We sent those out, too.
Can our banking system really be that insecure? I open an account based on a supposedly unique ID number, hand them a photo ID that doesn't even reference my SSN. Then, they give me another number - my account number - and tell me to keep it private. Three weeks later, I get my checks that ten minimum wage slaves have already gotten to see. Every check I hand out has my private account number printed at the bottom.
Most banks hold you responsible for any automated clearing house fraud, and yet, to authorize a transfer out, all that is needed are the numbers at the bottom of every personal check you write and the "assurance" from the receiving institution that you have "authorized the transfer".
When ya think about it, it's no wonder they charge you $2 to withdraw from an ATM, $3 to use a teller, and $35 for an overdraft - it's easier to roll the dice to get an account number than it is to roll the dice and win the lottery!
Think about it, when I create a document in the analog world with a pencil I don't have to save it. Every change is committed to paper.
You're right, of course, the added value with digital documents is that I can go back to previous versions.
Well, that's why a proper language course teaches you peer review:
First draft gets marked up with the usual symbolization (three lines under a letter means a capital, a carat subscripting the space between to words means insert the scribble abote), rewrite, repeat until you're done.
Personally, I learned to type before I learned to write - I was born in the eighties. But to edit a paper on a computer and worry about losing it? fuck that! I'll print it to edit, thankyaverymuch
When I was in high school, I worked as an intern for PENNDOT in the Construction Unit - the office back-end.
In PA, any accident that has bodily injury or vehicle disablement is reportable, as is any accident whatsoever in a construction zone. For these accidents, the police fill out a standard reporting form - the Construction Unit gets copies of construction zone accidents.
Each form has two questions that have no bearing on liability or criminal outcome, but they're there anyway: Seatbelts worn? yes/no; Cell phone involved? yes/no.
So, you might not have the stats, but trust me, the gov'mint sure does.
I bet that Nissan's a lot like my Volkswagen in that sure, there's an OBD-II port, but the codes only apply to what the government requires for emissions. Other diagnostic systems need to be accessed by a Volkswagen dealer computer or a "Vag-Com"
Ah, but there's a threshold on all those UMTS handsets in the US - All the UMTS providers already have a GSM network; the phones have a signal strength threshold that will switch them back to GSM.
Throw that GSM radio and the software behind it in a van or thirty, drive around town until the thing pops up.
At the very least, they had a paper copy for you. My precinct uses HART electronic voting machines - Once you're authenticated, you're given your ballot stub with a PIN number. Go to the machine, make your selections, and press CAST BALLOT.
The machine says "Thank you. Your ballot has been cast."
That's it. Nothing else. Either way, my state went where I voted, so I guess "I picked the winner!"
nVidia does it too, I recall tweaked drivers to get you some API that Quadro cards have that GeForce cards don't - related to 3D design, not games, tho.
Last election, my precinct used butterfly ballots and paper punch cards. Maybe someone might find those more difficult, but I could pull out the card and verify my vote before I dropped it in the box.
My new precinct uses Hart electronic voting machines. I haven't heard much about them security wise, but at the end, it just says "Thank you. Your vote has been recorded"
Uh, you sure? I got a receipt... before I actually went to the both, with my printed access code.
Do like I did, make every fill-up the time to check your oil, tire pressure, overflow tank, and washer fluid. You're right at the gas station if you're low, and at least you're not just standing watching your money fly away.
Seriously. I've downloaded Spanish movies before subtitled in English, but it was transposed into the video stream and not separate. Hence, I can't turn it on and off when I want to, which kinda defeats the purpose. I'm learning Spanish.
Are you in the western united states? If so, that's why. AT&T and T-Mo threw out their roaming partnership. As a result, NY blows chunks for AT&T right now.
So what does going into my network settings and unticking the box do? You know, the one that's unticked automatically by Vista if, when I connect to a new network, I tell it that it's not firewalled?
What bank allows customers to use ATMs without a pin? I CANNOT take out cash without the pin. You're not allowed to get "cash back" from a signature transaction, just purchase things. And, if someone steals the card, i know that at least MY bank - and most i know - will refund fees they charged you (zero fraud liability). If I bounce a check, they'll at least call the place I bounced to tell them it wasn't my fauly.
Now, if someone gets my PIN and I don't turn the card off fast enough, then I'm boned. 100% fraud liability.
Sounds 'bout right to put under the hood of a car!

Yeah, fuck Check21.
I still gotta wait 5 days for an out of state check to clear, but the damn check I wrote a business 3 states away clears overnight? Fuck, not cool.

I'm sure some places take them.

Oh no, I think the law is a GREAT idea.
Now not wearing a helmet? THAT's a dumb as shit idea.
Or licensed riders under 21, or any non-licensed, learner's permit holder.
(Still a dumb as shit idea, right big ben??)
You're not an alcoholic if you don't go to meetings, you're a drunk.
If you're in university, you're not an alcoholic even if you go to meetings, you're a student.

Wow. I always thought that "kid" (he's 10 years older than me) would have become a great scientist.
Way to be a jackass, Mr. Hahn.
Amen, man. That was probably 75% of my vote right there - Obama doesn't owe as much time on his knees as president as McCain.
M&T does - If you have a business account, anyway.

This is only my second time voting, I'm 22.

I voted without ID today too, but in PA, you need to vote in your precinct once before that and show ID to do so.
They had an image of my signature, and I had to sign in, so unless I signed good, I was gonna have to show my driver's license.
Do like I did, make every fill-up the time to check your oil, tire pressure, overflow tank, and washer fluid. You're right at the gas station if you're low, and at least you're not just standing watching your money fly away.
Can I turn the damn subtitles off?

Why dontcha just say no one time and write us a slashdot story on what happens? PLEASEEEEEE!
Are you in the western united states? If so, that's why. AT&T and T-Mo threw out their roaming partnership. As a result, NY blows chunks for AT&T right now.
Wait, what?
I can't disable File and Print Sharing?
So what does going into my network settings and unticking the box do? You know, the one that's unticked automatically by Vista if, when I connect to a new network, I tell it that it's not firewalled?
lol. Wimp. If the feds "took" my trademark, I'd double the surface area of my patches and not change a damn thing.
(Your bank sucks. So does mine, but...)
