  1. >> BTW: Did anyone find out whether the ammo Steve used was made out of silver?
Nearly. It was made of Silverlight :)

It was nicer with flash, but so much insecure :

  11. >> It's just nobody ever did a sandbox runtime right
That's the actual root of the problem.
    It can't be done right.
It cannot be all of that:
    - Fast
    - Safe
    - Compatible across OS
    - Adopted massively by applications
    - Efficient on ressource usage
    - Complete in features

Basically, it would create in the end a massive bloated shim layer which must be maintained for many different O.S. and Hardware configurations.
Why not just use Linux instead, as this layer it runs on nearly any hardware you throw at it.

  12. >> Because it could be another form of Windows that's not recording everything I
    Yeah. but it's not.
It's a better software ecosystem with typically one central package manager for everything.
Installing random external software manually is not the way to work on Linux.

  13. >> Lack of software is the result of Linux's market share, not the cause.
    BS.
Linux market share is fine, thanks. And there are two major software ecosystems around it, we don't need the Windows junk software, thanks.
FYI, Linux market share is currently approx 5x that of windows on shipped devices(not counting private installs on used devices.)

Under Linux, I can work without having to call IT every other day for weired problems

  22. >> I'm probably missing something here?
    Yes,
    1) Not enough PR
    2) Cost of added complexity and certification costs
    3) Infrastructure and support costs (you need a big power supply, ground control infrastructure and manpower, communication at long distance, which require attitude control of the spacecraft, tracking, etcetcetc...)
    4) Integration onto/into the spacecraft
    5) radiation hardening: this is not your typical LEO cubesat. It goes through intense radiation.
    6) Communication bandwidth to mars distances is really really small. Divide that by a thousand experiment, and they become useless.
