The only reason I liked Bab 5 was the (then) cool CGI and homage to Tolkein.
However, Bab 5 was FAR superior to ST:E. I don't see how this could hurt. Just hearing the horrible theme song made me cringe. Then it just got worse for most of 55 minutes...
First, I don't understand the need for GPS. You can simply track mileage from the odometer. Sure, odometers can be tampered with, but just work towards tamper-resistant odometers. It's not as if GPS systems couldn't also be tampered with. Anything that stores data can be hacked.
Secondly, I don't mind "pay to play" tax schemes. Use more? Pay more. However, they have yet to show how this will LESSEN the tax base for conservative drivers. Sure, make the SUV soccer moms who drive to the corner Starbucks pay a lot more. No problem. However, these schemes always wind up as ADDITIONAL taxes, not simply reworks of existing revenue systems. This is a revenue grab, plain and simple, and it should be fought vigilantly.
Reading and learning with "manipulatives" is the best way to do something. Want to teach math? Teach carpentry. Or sewing. Or just about anything that involves metrics.
Human beings learn through experience. The problem with "computer learning" is that the experiences are always finite (limited by the imagination and production effort of the programmers and dsigners). Nature is infinite. Go outside and learn some stuff.
There was an EICM (electronic ignition control module) recall on my wife's Subaru wagon. No huge danger, just a chance that the thing could run afoul of emissions regulations under rare circumstances. Software glitch. The free repair was handled in 15 minutes. The guy popped out a chip, popped in another, and all was well.
Now, imagine the cost and effort required to replace any defective part of a MECHANICAL ignition system. I've rebuild points, condensors, coils, distributors, etc. That work sucks. Getting the timing right alone takes time. Time is money, particularly when the manufacturer is fitting the bill for a recall.
Do I prefer electronics in my vehicles, having owned both electronic and electro-mechanical? Hell yes! Give me the new stuff, any day!
We're very impressed with the Opteron workstation we're testing. The specifications on their 1U/2P server (V220?) is far ahead of any Dell out there (never mind that they're Intel only). 16GB of RAM on a 1U/2P is pretty damn impressive, and you get the Opteron 850 in that. Tasty.
I would run Solarix X86 on Opteron, if I needed a Unix platform for a Solaris-based application in a heartbeat. I am even hoping to entertain using one for VMWare, if VMWare gets around to supporting it (they claim to be very interested in Opteron, which will no doubt make their ESX even better - and it's pretty damn good on Intel).
Someone post a list of the corporate sponsors for the inauguration, then boycott their products/services until they agree to pay the same amount to fund a Hubble rescue operation.
Seriously, find someone on the faculty who can be your champion. Whether or not they are on the admission committee isn't entirely important (but it helps). Just get someone to think you are pretty OK and willing to put in a good word for you.
I wanted a 3G iPod (wife got it for me), because it was the coolest player out there, with the most storage. I quickly loaded my 300+ CDs into it and was happy. THEN I discovered the iTunes Music Service. Now, I buy almost all of my music through ITMS.
You see, ITMS is #1 because the iPod is #1, not the other way around. Would I have bought music through ITMS? Maybe. But I certainly would not have switched to it almost exclusively, had I not been an iPod owner, not to mention that it's a great service (usualy cheaper than buying "physical" albums).
The huge impediment for us implementing a Linux or Solaris-based thin client system has been the relatively crappy support for media streaming (primarily ISMA-compliant MPEG-4). Yes, there are lots of MPEG tools, but most of these are libraries, command line tools (essentially for ripping/stealing content), or "players" that lack any sort of polish, instead prefering to have "sci fi" interfaces or such nonsense.
There is already a suitable alternative to the Windows desktop: Mac OS X. They get the whole media concept right.

Best of luck.
And if anybody comes back with a big spidery thing attached to their faces, for ged's sake, DO NOT LET THEM INTO THE HABITAT!

There will alway be something cheaper/better/smaller/cooler/etc. in the future. If you really like what's offered today, get it.

...let's teach programmers to write BUG FREE code first.
Of course, I'd settle for remote code execution code free.
Just plunk down $500 for a Minimac.
Quartz Extreme makes good use of the graphic hardware of any Mac. Many applications use this to their advantage.
...only criminals will expose themselves to women!
Like on my favorite Gene Simmons/Tom Selleck flick ever!
Do I need to kneel, or even lie on my stomach to make this shot?
Ghost Recon can do this to you. Every person is a potential target. Too bad there's no IFF IRL...

I gave them my SSN and credit card numbers, but I so love to read their stuff online!

My Aztec forfathers have already seen to it that the world will end in 2012.
I'm shorting my Google stock...
Absolutely. This is why I always root for the New England Patriots.
GO PATS!

Because they want you to pay them to MANAGE your infrastructure, not sell Microsoft licenses for boxes they make 2% profit on.
Smart move that Novell, Red Hat and others are starting to figure out...
Using this on a cable modem with Apple AIrPort Extrememe Base Station, 10.3.7 is much improved! No more annoying refreshes required!
So far, it's a great update!
One would think that an "online university" would have heard about dictionary.reference.com!
"My cat is an honors student at Trinity Southern University."
For ged's sake, man, get a new couch! That thing is hideous!
Oh, and the Baby Einstein series freaks out my boy. I will see if it's any better now that he has a cold and is taking antihistamines...
That still leaves 90% who feel great about it!
