    here are a number of free utilities to block popups in IE that work well, but AFAIK, none can block Flash animations

    Then use Mozilla Phoenix. And download the "click to play flash" extension.

    For those who've used these shiny new touchscreen voting machines...

    How do they handle write-ins?

    Example: in the (just overturned) 2003 Gubernatorial election, I voted for a write-in candidate, because through some quirk of fate, the Libertarians nominated "Captain Loogie" and "Ferret-Boy". The old system allowed me to write-in my vote.

    Seriously. Free Speech means that you are free to say what you want without any consequences FROM THE GOVERNMENT. If people believe Howard's an idiot, and more importantly, can convince his superiors he's an idiot, then fine. With rights come responsibilities. The right of Free Speech implies the responsibility of accepting the consequences of ones speech.

    RTFOP. He already had a PPT file. He had a windows machine. He decided to use OOo instead of "pirating" MS PowerPoint. He ragged on OOo. My point was he could have stayed nice and legal by using the PPT Viewer.

    I'm well aware that PPT Viewer is closed source and Windows only. For his needs though, it would have been fine.

    I was referring to nanosecond as meaured by the speed of light. You were referring to a nanosecond of longitude, which I didn't realize until I read your second post. I'm used to dealing with decimal degrees when playing with latitude/longitude (occupational hazard for my particular line of employment).

    Downgrade your ME to 98SE (or upgrade it to 2K). WinME is the most bloatedly useless steaming pile of shit that Microsoft ever produced.

    For the DOS based Windows versions, 98SE is the best. For the NT family, I'd go with 2K over XP.

    Fine. You are aware, though, that Microsoft provides a free Powerpoint Viewer? All you have to do is go to microsoft.com and download it.
