In what way is Apple trying to lockout competitors from HTML5? There's absolutely zero evidence of that. They have probably the most standards compliant browser ever on a mobile device and they've put in the hands of tens of millions of people.

Their relentless obsession of standards-compliant browsing is exactly what this is about. They are trying to shoot down a 'single-vendor controlled proprietary de-facto standard' replace it with the industry standard HTML5.

I think this is a hilarious justification from Flash-boys -- Flash is better than HTML5 because it isn't standardized, and thus its single reckless proprietary vendor will use it as a vehicle for sloppily exposing internal APIs on whatever platforms it runs on. And this is more free and democratic or something.

Under the last 1.5 years of Democratic rule, we've had a landmark overhaul of health care, responsible wind-down of the war in Iraq, refocusing of military energy against people who are actually our enemies, wall street reform, credit card reform, economic stimulus, hate crimes prevention act, student loan reform, funding for energy and science research, and nuclear arms treaty. We've also seen a functional government response to disasters (flooding in TN and oil spill). Oh, and we've managed to repair this country's image in the world's eyes for the most part.

Definitely not perfect, but not that bad considering the state the country was in that he inherited.

The previous 8 years? we had an illiterate cowboy who couldn't figure out which country to shoot at, turned the entire world against us, let people drown to death due to a massive mismanagement of Katrina, pardoned political hacks for outing covert CIA agents, oversaw a doubling of the federal debt and the most massive economic collapse since the Great Depression. Oh, and the country that guy inherited had no outstanding wars and was running a budget surplus.

You said that Steve Jobs created the iPhone in order to destroy the web by forcing everyone to write native iPhone apps. That is the exact opposite of what happened. Originally the iPhone didn't support 3rd party native apps at all--the line from Apple was that people should write standards-based web apps because they are safe (and portable).

There was an outcry at the time that led to Apple changing their plans, releasing a developer kit and opening the App Store--and now we have an outcry about that as well. Perhaps some people just like to cry.
