The whole point of doing this is that its not known to the user, just like a wiretap. If they left you a note day "There's government issued spyware on your computer. Go about your normal business," it wouldn't be all that effective.
Then lots of people would stop writing GNU code. I want my stuff accessible to anyone for any purpose, not just ones I find politically acceptable. If you want some other restrictions, go find yourself another license.
Hell, I would. If it was at a Tivo comparable pricing, looking vaguely like a tivo (game console sized box), and ran myth TV, I'd get one. I just don't have time to go build one (or several) myself.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I just am trying to figure out what the Over Protective Family Value Coalition or whatever they actually thinks could be done.
And an age checker would work how? Require a credit card?
I remember the old Leisure Suite Larry games had questions you'd need to be 20 or so to know the answers to but that was pre-internet.
If manufactures can't get a copy protection scheme to work for more than a week, I wouldn't expect them to get one to work that blocks underage players.
You can make a cron job that'll add the Printer icon back in the dock. OSX is smart enough to not put in multiple instances of the same thing.
Also, why would you actually need the printer icon? Don't they just use File-> Print?
As for the desktop, I found putting an alias to their Documents folder on the desktop makes it more likely for it to be used. Also, making a "Downloads" folder on the desktop and setting Safari to use it reduces the clutter quite a bit.
But you're not the editor of Slashdot. If any magazine had as editing as poor as Slashdot does, it'd be laughed out of existence. Really, there are community college classes for stuff like this. And books. And seminars. And actual Editors. Any one of these things would be a great asses for the Slashdot staff.
I strongly disagree that most planes have power outlets. I've flown 10 time this past year, and only once did my seat have an outlet.

Hey thats cheating! You also added a comma.
Not of the xbox users on slashdot, but there's zero chance that more than 2 of the people I do tech support for have any sort of modded console.
"Conspiracy to" translates into "We don't actually know what to charge you with yet." Conspiracy charges are almost always turned into something else.
That things was great! Made me think of the "rip" sandwich we'd get back in public school cafeterias.

And it does frequently on mine.
Any recommendations on set top cases to go with?

The original poster is asking for a system he can go out and buy. Does anyone sell MythTV set top boxes?
Please. Apple has never been the platform of choice for rendering farms. They may be in the future, but they're going up from zero.

You can do it from the command line too.
Apply for a small business grant.
if your entire machine is locking up, its not an issue with any single application.
Automatic update isn't nearly as handy as having pre burnt cds when your relatives have dailup.

Damn right! I need somebody to talk to about things other than elk and bow hunting.

Don't buy the game on the first day. Do you install patches the day they come out? Plenty of things have problems when they're first released.
Please. 42% of all people already knew that.
Stock represents ownership, in the same way my patent represents ownership. Both have value only so much as their value is recognized by other people.
Um, you could say the same thing about cash, or stock. If the government crumbles, you're out of luck.
