Hmm here in the states I never cared much for my Nokias (granted the only two I've had have been a 5190 and an early 3something). I always felt like they got crappy reception. And they had NiCd batteries so if I didn't wait for them to die completely before I charged them I'd get like 15min of talk time. I can't count the number of times both of them would just be dead in my pocket when I'd talked for like 10 minutes. I swore them off then and have been biased ever since. Although admitedly the reception problems were more due to me using Cingular's craptastic GSM service. And no doubt the batteries have been improved. Maybe I'll look again sometime...

Of course my CDMA/AMPS Audiovox still gets far and away the best reception I've ever had on a phone (compared to Nokia, Ericcsson, and Motorolas I've used).

Ok, the problem's a little bit of A, a little bit of B. Just because the system was insecure doesn't mean you should let just anybody waltz on in.

If I accidently left my keys in my car and someone took it for a joy ride, I'd be damn sure I called the cops.

I'm sick of people defending these guys. If you find an open system you shouldn't go poking around in it any more than you should take a nap in my car if the door's unlocked. Or if it just had poor security (all it takes is a slim-jim to get into a lot of cars...should it be legal to mess around with those?)

So yeah, the sysadmin needs to take some responsibility. But so does the hacker, he's far from being a victim for getting busted himself...

This has already happened. Truth is, most people I know used to share everything. Now I can quite honestly say I don't know a single person who leaves sharing enabled. In fact, making sure Kazaa has sharing disabled has become as important as making sure there's a virus scanner when any of us has to fix a friend's/relative's computer.

I was talking with some friends about this the other day. While it sucks for the network users, it just comes down to the fact that you would have to be friggin INSANE to leave your computer sharing lots of files right now. Why not just put a sign up that says "Hey, RIAA! Come sue me!" No thank you.

What /. tends to forget is that the VAST majority of p2p users ARE downloading copyrighted songs. And if we got sued, the vast majority of us would lose even if the RIAA had the most incompetent lawyers on the planet (which I'm sure they don't...) It takes someone who really didn't break the law to challenge these suits. For the rest of us, it's simply not worth the risk, so we'll just pull our machines off line and wait for a more secure way to do things. I can certainly do without the music for a while...

Digital cable would win for me, if they didn't force you to use their god-awful boxes and have the guide software run from their end. I know four people with digital cable and 3 of them have to use that slow as hell "TV Guide" guide. There's at least a one second lag on pushing ANY button on the box (it's usually about 2sec) and there are so many ads on it you can only see 30min at a time in the channel list. Worst interface ever.
