That is an interesting take. Let the advertisers target the hyper-consumerists (ie, the majority) and leave the rest of us alone.
Of course, then they might object to giving "deadbeats" access to "free" content which is ad-based. Why allow us to watch X if we're not going to pony up for the shiny things being advertised between bits of content?
Do they have the right to discriminate who to provide service to if they claim their service is free? I don't know.
I like FedEx. They take the boxes off the truck every time the delivery run is over, so you can pick up your package at the distribution center if you miss the delivery (and it's not closed yet.)
I first read that as "the delivery is run over", which would be more in line with the other stories here.

Seriously, do you think the average person is as stupid as the industry that made the "corn 'sugar'" commercials?
Yep.
However I am with you on buying corn I like and not corn I don't like. I like corn meal, corn chips, corn on the cob. None of these have much to do with the corn lobby that tries to force feed hfcs to our kids.
Then don't connect your personal phone to the company network.
This.
Furthermore, there is no way in hell I am going to spend my own money on a phone for work purposes. If they want me to pretend to have email access anywhere, they can very well buy me a phone that I can leave locked up in my desk at work, then pretend the network wasn't available when they tried to get in touch with me.
Prepaid Visa / Mastercards or a card that will give you "one time use" numbers would be two simple ways to sidestep the "follow the money" investigation.
Almost certainly not. Law enforcement can easily ask the credit card company for details and it all points back to the master account. However this could make casual database searching a bit tougher, using this plan would still have all the accounts with the same name.
Thanks for the nice words about LWN! Here's a special link to the LWN article on per-tty group scheduling for Slashdot folks. Hopefully a few of you will like what you see and decide to subscribe.

This is all pussy stuff...wait till they introduce the scanner that sets off any explosive material. That should sort out the carriers pretty damn quick! Love it.
There was a short story in Frank Herbert's Eye where a man invented a device to remotely detonate most combustible materials. Very interesting read.
I disagree completely. These customers had no idea the game was not supposed to be played. The shop that released early might be liable, but it is still crap design by Microsoft.
but it wasn't until Apple included a USB only computer that USB stuff started coming out.
Even if this were true, isn't is just as likely that apple created a USB only computer simply because there were so many good USB devices out there? I will agree that the iMac was progressive for being the first usb-only computer.
90% of motherboards made today still have that damn space taken up by PS/2, serial and/or parallel.
So what? The procssing is all done by a single chip, and a few extra io pins on an atx motherboard isnt going to kill you.
It's only been recent that some motherboards allow you to flash BIOS and stuff other than having a floppy disk. Apple is way ahead of the curve on that.
Uhh... I dont even... most computers have supported boot alternative devices and bios flashing since like '96.
I'd love to see a cheap, legacy free MicroATX motherboard on NewEgg.
Again, I question why you care if there are headers for a floppy connector on the board or a port on the back. There are plenty of computers sold without a floppy drive, and nobody is making you put one in your computer. I haven't had ps/2 or floppy disks in a lot of years.
So if Jobs can 'trick' 8% of the market into over priced NAND on the iPod, iPhone and iPad or into the SSD, good for him.
I agree with you here, and as we all know that there is an early adopter fee, and this stuff will not remain expensive for long. I hope people dive into NAND quickly so we can drive the prices down for the rest of us.

That's the problem with generalisations. They are all stupid.
head explodes
Why do you have a problem with me using Fedex to ship somebody across the country some radioactive fiesta-ware they bought from me on eBay?
"Radioactive" doesn't automatically signify "dangerous".
In trained and informed hands, not dangerous at all. However I would consider Fiestaware dangerous to someone ignorant of its radioactive properties.
Should such devices be properly labeled? Probably. Should they be banned from postal services if properly packaged? Probably not.

Yeah, the boundaries they are looking for in Java are always going up, its up to 15 years experience for a senior position.
I hear James Gosling is out of work, though...

Wait, what were we talking about again?

At first I thought the court had returned a stolen Stargate, not a stolen Stargate *MMO*. Which would have been much bigger news, that's for sure.
They must have set a transponder on it and beamed it up.
Water isn't even on the ballot. There is, however, Mellow Yellow...yeah, no thanks.
Quite right, slick.
They bundled the spyware Google Toolbar with it (optional, but opted-in by default in the installation options).
Actually its the Yahoo toolbar, which is equally as annoying.
t's probably easier for us to all learn Morse, and just have a deet da dee deet festival.
An L festival?

"a message which is indecent or grossly offensive"
I'm offended by your comment! Why haven't you been jailed!?
Because it wasn't grossly enough.
