I disagree. I have had blazing fast internet at home and at work for about 18 years now. I have a personal data recorder that can take video an upload it quite easily and watch other's video even easier.
Yet here I am replying to you with text. Text is just easy and fast and you are more likely to understand my text than my slurred morning speech. Also my boss would probably be pissed off if he knew I was replying to you rather than working.
No amount of high speed connectivity is going to reduce the utility and ease of text.
NASA isn't stupid. They know if a rocket with their name on the side explodes, politicians will go apeshit and immediately cut funding. If a SpaceX or Orbital ATK rocket explodes (which both had a NASA ISS payload explode), well that the cost of being on the forefront.
And it is the cost of pushing the envelope, so NASA does what it can to get these missions flying on American hardware from American launch sites. Politicians be damned.
I always enjoy how these "if you have have done nothing wrong..." folks don't volunteer their own private information and communications to become part of public record.
My mom would just keep some comfortable sandals in the car to switch to.
In the winter when I am wearing waterproof work boots I keep some comfortable shoes in my car to change to. I would rather drive off a cliff than try to drive for an hour with work boots on.
You are damn right when it comes to the socjus people being as sexist as anyone.
If conservatives oppose something, liberals feel compelled to defend it.
Holy shit that is it. I had been asking myself "why would feminists and islamists be on the same side" for at least a year with nobody able to give a response other than "victim culture", which I felt can't be all of it.
But I think you nailed it right on the head here. Protesters gotta protest, and the regressives feel like everyone not of the majority should fall under their banner. One would think they would have figured it out by now, but once they graduate with their underwater basket weaving degrees and hit the job market, they will figure it out.
People have to assume that sites they share information with are secure.
No we dont.
You're trusting Slashdot to not compromise your personal information.
Hahahaha no. There is not a bit of my personal information in my slashdot account that I am not explicitly making public.
Why is it okay for the people whose information has been exposed to be collateral damage to prove that a site isn't secure?
Who says it is ok? A bunch of people going "shame on you!" isn't going to make hacks happen less often. What we need to do is hold companies that let private data go public to the fire.
Yes, there were a bunch of hypocrites cheering at the Ashley Madison breach, and maybe people jealous of users of this site? But these are not people that care about information security, they are just for any security breach that helps their agenda.
But the house itself could double or half in value overnight with disruptions in the price of gold, loan or not. This encourages people to walk away from their loans, which is exactly what happened in 2008. In that case it was because people went on a buying frenzy when prices were inflated, thinking that prices would continue to inflate.
The same would happen with gold, "Oh I better buy property now, gold went up in value a lot over the past few months... it might go up more!" Yeah, or it might not.
Either way the individuals are morons. Gold has been quite inconsistent over the years so it will only cause this to happen more.
Don't worry. I'm sure goldfinger here doesn't actually have any gold outside of his "offshore gold depository" that you see advertised late night on basic cable channels. And I am sure he think that when the economy and society collapses they will be more than happy to ship his gold to him in some sort of well defended caravan.
So I read your comment as: "I have no idea what I am talking about since I refuse to read the article or watch the video, so I am just going to shitpost."
Well, it is equally likely that they are not being altruistic in their brave defense of their users.
If they were to capitulate here, it would mean a deluge of decryption requests. This would cost them money and resources having to go to each one. Worse, it would almost certainly mean a massive loss of sales as people migrate away from them.
Either way, it is in the public's best interest to not have this go through.
Remember, Google does not give a shit about it's users. They set up the copyright claim system to help punish small users doing fair use and completely silence anyone exercising free speech.
Think about where their money comes from. Yeah, Youtube might make some money on ad impressions for some person's channel. But give Sony and other abusive corporations free reign to squash anyone they want? I wonder how much they pay for their channels?
And not with pants on head, either.

If their execs think they are immune to a Myspace-level drought turning Facebook into the latest internet desert.
There will still be chunks of concrete and stone with text on it when the human race has either moved on from Earth or died out.

And nothing of value... Fuck it, it is already worthless.
Exactly.

This is stuff that matters, though.
"The people are revolting!"
"You said it, they stink on ice."
Why are we paying to clean up their mess?
Our lawmakers are too busy sucking BP's dick.
Maybe that is why so many people that visit the beaches get sunburn! Its a solar spill!

What do you mean I need a T-connector? Those are only for 10baseT! Its right there in the name.
Dis CAT4 obsolete CAT3? Did CAT6 obsolete either predecessor?
Yeah, they kinda did. Everyone was moving to 100Mbit.

Except that everyone else in the real world does not accept his claim of "world class hackers" unless it is proven.
Actually, I take that back, most people are idiots and will take any claim without any proof.
Just watched this today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

So it is ok for Youtube, Google and Sony to stomp all over the rights of us plebs, but not universities?
Read that as "camelless". Oh good we can have cars without camels?
Read the tweets, then make up your mind. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia.
