    And we would only need to audit suspicious or close elections, not every single one. Maybe spot check a few precincts at random, too.

    Yeah, that's what I did years ago, but OP was talking about "buying" as in giving money to Disney.

    But why, though? Just like with DRM; piracy gives you a better product. One would think companies would learn that they can produce a better product with less hassle for a reasonable price. ($20 for a Blu-Ray, no strings attached? Sold!)

    They could make things available for streaming for a reasonable price. Want to stream everything? Pay for a dozen services for $30 a month.

    Want to watch your favorite sports team? No. Fuck you. You can pay full price for cable to maybe occasionally get a game on streaming. The NHL doesn't even want your money. I can assume streaming for other leagues is just as stupid.

    Could they provide services for prices people are willing to pay? Sure. But they are just too... damn... greedy. They always will be, there is no point in fighting it.

    How can we use "1.7 Earths" worth of resources in a single year, or at all? I can guarantee that we did not use up all of the resources on Earth, much less ".7 Earths" worth of resources coming from some other place.

    I am all for reducing climate change, emissions, pollution, and lowering the resource footprint; but this kind of sentimentalization helps exactly nobody.

  21. Municipal governments have about zero budget for IT costs. Instead they would rather get windows and run the risk of getting owned instead of actually paying money for support.

    Of course, it is usually even more expensive to recover from a security incident... Well, nobody as accused politicians of being forward thinking.
