The problem with the US market is it isn't as democratic as we all think it is and we don't let regulation take it's course because we are more concerned with profits than people.
Our democracy isn't the driving force for our existance as it was 200+ years ago. It's now SUV's, large TV's, large credit card debts and the influx of extreme evangelism of hatred, non believers and hard rightwing faith.
Capitalism is an economic system, not a form of government. In a democratic society the people have spoken and regulation is a natural course of the will of our nation; to believe otherwise is to be imperialistic and fascist in manyways, hardly democratic and compassionate person as our president likes to think he is.
Regulation is fairness represented through our democratic institutions. If corporate america thinks they are above our will or those who believe in imperialistic capitalism think capitalism is form of government and government only exists to protect imperialistic economic powers then that is an America that i dion't think "Freedom loving Americans" would fight and die for.
Not just as others point out in the amount of jobs available, but in stability, features and extensibility.
I love java for what it does on the development lifecycle. I enjoy my ant deployments through anthill automated to my application servers. I enjoy building war files to deploy, packaging apps as components.
I also love the way Nutch was written. Nutch/Lucene is elegent design, high performance and 100% java.
This is about the CPU. You can't find a quad core CPU at 3.5ghz for 300 bucks yet alone a console with 512 megs ram, the worlds fastest GPU and a quad core 3.5ghz CPU with a backplane and interconnect speed to boot for 300 bucks. I could care less if ms is loosing 100+ per console that still makes it cheaper then i can get a dual core cpu today.
Comparing that to the NES is like saying console should always be 8 but cartridge based machies. The nintendo found a niche and created a market that they have long since been able to succeed in. However that market has never been defigned until today and if you would rather preach proprietary hardware as being cool and a console built from somewhat reliable and existing technology as a pc in a smaller case then that is your own misconception to deal with. Even the NES is just a "pc" dedicated to gaming.
Show me where i can get a quad (or even dual) 3.5 PC with 512 megs ram an ATI 1800 video card, USB, 20 gig hard drive for 300 bucks.
Hype? the 360 is out, check out the graphics yourself. Try and pick one up before you hypothetically compare things the way you think they are because of whatever bias you have.
Google is just a mess for anything i look for. Yahoo's summaries are better, results are less poluted of advertising only sites and actually are more responsive.
This study only proves someone's bias for google and nothing more.

People don't care how it works, just that it works. CUseeme used reflectors, broadcasting and other trickery to allow it to work fairly well on the technology we had back then.
I'm more sarcastic in the views of video over phone or net as it isn't worth it, been done before and the transport method - in this case p2p isn't revolutionary anymore. I could link up multiple reflectors and broadcast my cuseeme nearly 10 years ago. THe actual quality of the video hasn't changed worth squat in all reality since the network and technology of brandband used today still sucks as bad as it did then. (upload/outbound performance)
I live in lancaster and would love to see low water flushing urinals/toilets and more conservation..
It's not about the day to day weather impact in how our water resources are doing, but in the long term impact and how we can better manage what we use.
If not for anything but a cost savings.. All of these anti low flow toilet people need to get a mortgage and a water bill and then come back and post on this subject. I bet these are the same people that won't buy high efficient light bulbs because they cost a tad more. The initial impact will be more ofcourse but the utilization will be less and the cost savings will returen over the products lifetime and well if you know you spent more in the first place you might respect it more.
They just said they cut a blu-ray disk and they're sending out copies to be tested. They didn't say they achieved the entire 40g or dual layer functionality. They didn't say that the video plays perfectly and that they would be on time to deliver or compete.
As others have said this appears to be a stunt to say they did it rather then prove the technology over.
Microsoft *DOES* produce other devices and they know the manufacturing/shop floor management. (They run facilities and design the software that manages them)
The xbox which has been out for four years with a hard drive hasn't had a virus.
Why would there be an concern abotu virus infiltration? The PS3 would have the same problem if (and ps2) by your logic with the exception it would be network centric but still a threat.
Thats all i can say. I'm no big microsoft fan. I'm an open source, open idea and freedom of information zealot however the xbox 360 is just cool.
Been plenty of stories on it here but i have to agree with what others have said. The entire package of the 360, the games, the service (xbox live) and the experience is going to make for one hell of a system.
Marked for inflation the 360 costs less than what i spent on an atari years ago, and that is pretty amazing.
I'll be buying it at day one.
I've got 30-45 mins a day at max i can play, and the experience, ease of use and integration of the xbox and xbox live service is what makes it for me.
It's funny how people Diss hyundai. I find hyundai to be the osx of cars. They work, they have great warranties and they're designed and priced accordingly.
My last tiburon got nearly 200k miles with only changing the tires and oil and a clutch rebuild after teaching the wife how to drive.
Hyundai is giving american car manufactures a run for the money, not only in quality but service, performance and reliability.
I'd take a 6 speed 200+ horsepower 06 tiburon over a lexus anyday.
You missed the point.. his point wasn't it would cost more that 62.5 billion its the fact we can't pay for 62.5 billion or the 200+ billion it will cost for all gulf states to come back to normalcy without raising taxes..
All the republicans are doing is making my daughter or your son and your daughter pay for the messes he is creating..
Sure.. prez can't control the weahter, but could do a hell of a lot better job in managing the infrastructure and support that has made our country what it is. Obviously he doesn't care.
Xboxlive is the service that gives the 360 the "network is the computer" concept.
Blue ray won't make your games better. THe services built around the 360 do. Xboxlive makes it easy to manage a single platform with limitless possibilites and takes you beyond the limited storage medium of which should only be a way to load up what you need to get running with anyhow.
The 360 with the hard drive and broadband connection gives you much more than a larger storage format that won't get used anyhow.
do you understand the concept of the Xbox360? It's not about what is phsyically included on your xbox but how well your xbox is part of the network. The DVD rom is plenty big enough for every game i've ever played and still play, but beyond that the 360 is a networked console with the network being able to extend the gameplay to limitless possibilities.
That is why it's pointless to have a bigger media drive when it's not about what gets delivered in the package per say but the overall gaming experience and service that is provided through a well designed infrastructre.
Xbox live SMOKES everything out there for creating a gaming environment.
* You can't stick it in a binder * It will be useless in cars with DVD systems * It will destroy portable dvd player market * You think netflix will still offer free shipping on that stupid catridge? * Will you really want to redesign your shelfs and entertainrooms around bigger/goofier looking catridges? * Will you really let your kids touch something like this? * Do you really think *SONY* is good or even better than Microsoft? Sony isn't Mr Corporate Friendly last time i checked.
Blue Ray destroys everything that is GOOD about DVD and CD type technology and takes us back to the days of proprietary zip disk looking things that may be the talk of the town for a short while but don't do anything but give us space that we won't use for a while.

You're still comparing apples to oranges.

But that microsoft and IBM can develop such a beast as part of a console with a $300.00 pricepoint.
I'm not sure any of the AC's or MS haters in here have ever seen a 360 or played one yet. It's a miracle of a machine for the price you pay.

That is $498,000 cheaper then other vendors

Thats a fault of intel and Doom.
Doom isn't developed for SMP and Intel HT sucks.
BTW, Q4 on the 360 is sweet, don't underestimate SMP design.
Xbox miles ahead.. its "extend its lead in the ONLINE console marketplace"

End of story.
Enough about DRM, Rootkits and bad "netizenships". Sony has got to go if this how the "play ball"
HD-DVD all the way!
Me too..

but playing over a network device of some sorts..
Fios could handle it if they seperated out different types of networks/protocols to handle it.
Infact verizon's goal with fios is internet at first and then TV and VoIP and everything else that will follow.
Linux isn't great because it's piracy features and Anti DRM features..
How does anything you say even have a glimmary of relationship to the topic? Linux will win because people will crack the technology on a free os?
come on
i'll believe it when i see it.
