    Don't like the toll road? Don't use it. It's going to be PRIVATELY financed. Not paid for with your tax dollars. I hardly think it that outrageous that a privately financed road would want you to help contribute if you use it... either that, or keep using the roads which you've already paid for with your taxes.

    My suspicion is that they went after the most popular applications first, with additions coming in the future.

    This makes sense: start with a larger userbase. If someone wrote a really great audio tool, that only supported OGG instead of MP3, it wouldn't take off very fast (if at all). Same thing here.

    Everywhere I have ever lived has what is called an "absentee ballot". You can register to vote by mail, permanently. I voted a couple weeks ago for the primary election which is next week.

    Onfolio is an add-on for Internet Explorer that gives you a very advanced set of bookmark-style features that let you cache things local, capture only snippets of pages, create a traditional bookmark, and yes, search the whole lot.

    He's not asking about switching to Linux... he's asking about why Linux users don't switch to Windows!

    If you're not connected to the network, you can't do anything on the domain, except on the local computer. If you regain network connectivity, your credentials are then evaluated as you attempt access, meaning it's just the same as if a domain controller had been available at logon.

    That said, You're sitting in front of the computer. At that point, you have breached physical security, and passwords are not really that important of an issue.

    And that local cached password? Expires after 10 attempts according to Microsoft documentation.

    - WinFS wasn't cancelled. It was scaled back so they could deliver what worked in a reasonable timeframe.

    - Microsoft hasn't announced hardware specs. What you're referring to is what a bunch of watchdog folks are GUESSING will be the hardware specs.

    - WinXP is much more stable than 2k. If you consider stability a "boring" enhancement, well, I bet you're in the minority.

    Um, neither have Microsoft's upgrades. And by my math, multiple $99 or $129 Apple upgrades are going to cost more than one $99 or $129 Microsoft upgrade

    Agreed... mod parent up as Informative. I sold them at retail several years ago and wondered why anyone would spend the money. Then I worked for them. Despite having left under less-than-ideal circumstances with my supervisor, their product is awesome (I have one at my new job and at home).

    Yet there's quite a bit of the /. crowd that thinks it is perfectly normal and acceptable to sell items or characters for an EverQuest game. Hello... Pot, you have a call on line one. It's Kettle.

    If it were truly easy to use, there would be no need for a walkthrough guide... each screen would present choices, and offer help if needed. Software installers should NEVER require external documentation.
