  1. Give us documentation. on The Return of S3 · · Score: 3, Interesting
IMHO for Linux community drivers don't matter so much as free documentation. S3, please release detailed documentation to your card, so people could create Free Drivers, both 2D (XFree86, kdrive, framebuffer, etc) and 3D (DRI).

What's the point to not releasing documentation, when your card is not "high speed"? What you have to hide?

By opening source of drivers and releasing documentation - company could gain:

    • better drivers (because coders will find bugs and send patches)
    • new drivers (for Linux and other OSes)
    • karma

And it means money, because better drivers and better karma means bigger sell.

How much longer we will need to listens what companies say about Linux? It doesn't matter! Important is what we can do with Linux on our desktops.

You need to play movie? Get mplayer. Or xine. Or few other players. Aren't they ready? Is Windows so much better in playing movies? What about music ? Watching tv? Isn't multimedia a desktop stuff?

You need to browse WWW. Is really Mozilla so bad as browser? Or maybe there are no mail/news clients which work in Linux? Or it isn't possible to chat on irc or with communicators? Where is the problem?

You can say many good things about OpenOffice, but it's similiar to MS Office: huge and slow. BTW Where is Mozilla? Evolution is MS Outlook replacement. Well... I don't understand it. In first table there is comparision between reiser4(A) and ext3(C). Big numbers in C/A are red, small numbers in C/A are green. Small C/A means that ext3 is faster than reiser4. So green color is bad for reiser4.

But in next table A is reiser, and B is reiser4. So B/A is small and green when B is faster. So this time green is better for reiser4.
