(4) do not use headphones, use real 4+1 or 5+1 speakers, set them to middle-volume (i.e. not very silent), most of the time everything will be silent, but when something happen you jump on your chair (and your neighbours will call police...:)
Console makers should give them (without any cost) for developers, this way console will be popular. And there aren't so many developers to make it expensive for company.
Reverse engineering is good, and each coder should try it. This is the way to learn how someone else code is working, when that code is closed source. I don't think you can fool experienced assembler code with messing code around. Think about R.E. like about game. It's like cracking, but it's good. And it's about creating, not about destroying.
I'll take proprietary drivers if it means I can use the hardware I like with the OS I love to get work done.
Are you sure this is still Linux, when very important kernel module is not open source (and not developed by kernel hackers)? IMHO it may be 99,99% Linux (or GNU/Linux if you want), but not 100%.
Please stop using glxgears as benchmark. This application draws just few triangles, without textures. Try to use glxgears in software and hardware mode. Then try any serious app, and compare.
After RedHat (from 5.1 to 6.2) and Slackware, I decided to switch to something better, much better. I strongly dislike idea of Debian, and I don't think Gentoo would be my choice. I build my own Linux From Scratch. Sure - it's not updating itself. There are no official packages at all. But from the other point of view - you are not limited at all. You don't need to find balance between your needs and what distribution gives. You don't need to worry how many users your distro has, because there is only one distribution like yours. Because it is your own installation of Linux. One and true.
His name is Andrzej, which means Andy in english, and I am sure he hates both Microsoft and SCO, in fact he hates everyone except people who vote on him. Here in Poland we didn't know he could write a virus. But most people from his party were uneducated when entering parliament, and now few of them are after two schools. So these people are learning fast. I hope he will not contribute Linux Kernel soon...
Their website doesn't work. At least link to article. After so many years we finally found way to destroy Microsoft. All you need to do is post more MS-related stories, and see how their servers die.
PS. Windows is better than Linux in 4 on 5 scenarios, but I always hit in that last scenario.

The browser war?"
What a dumb poll, what a dumb site. What should I choose if I am NOT using IE at all? Maybe there are better sites to put articles about Linux Kernel than that one?
The M214, or its ficitious WWII equivalent, makes an appearance in RTCW, called the Venom. Those who have mastered it are ferocious; it does something like 200 points of damage a second to those in its path.
It was my favourite weapon in multiplayer RTCW, what a shame they removed it in Enemy Territory...
Game is about politics in post-russian republic. There are many good ideas in game, but after few hours you realized that whole 3D engine is worthless - you can use 3D mode just for fun, because all things important to game are in 2D map.
Game is very original (much closer to real politics than Tropico for example), but playability is low.
AFAIK there are no SCO-related news on computer or business sites. Just Slashdot and few other linux-related sites constantly put these boring "news". Usually I skip them (both stories and comments), because there is really nothing interesting in it. SCO has nothing to offer, SCO will destroy nothing. SCO will change nothing. These "news" are worthless, just like soap opera.
I am afraid you are wrong. Savannah is very important website. Many free projects are hosted there (for example mldonkey), and with whole site disabled development was almost completly stoped for many days.
I don't get it. Do you mean all nVidia driver problems are related to changing kernel ABI? But that part of drivers is open source.
IMHO problem is somewhere else. There are millions of possible configurations, and few people working on driver just can't solve each problem. In open source driver there are more workers (they don't need money from company), so it's much easier to fix driver for individuals.
You can't produce good, stable Linux drivers without opening source. Sure, you can for Windows, because:
there are much more users in Windows
more workers spend their time on fixing Windows drivers
even when something doesn't work you can always say that it is bad hardware (mobo, cpu, etc)
After releasing sources you could get hundrets of patches in a week. After releasing docs you could get new, stable, and well written (DRI) drivers.
But we all know that you can't do this. And Linux nVidia Driver will be always described with one word: crappy.

If I would put one of these cards in a machine I would choose ATI or even better matrox, which have both very stable drivers (and very good 2D quality), something you do want in a server. But a lot of servers have an integrated graphics card, which is fine.
Could anyone explain why the hell good 2D quality and stable video drivers are needed on server ??!
SCO can't sue any Linux users except their own customers.
Both two customers?

The question is, what kind of developer that would need version control relies on binaries, hmm?
Windows one.

I'm just gonna call it "The Browser Formerly Known as Firebird"
But I remember it as Phoenix.
bonus DVD with 2 blank CD-Rs
What does it mean?
This is not portable code, it requires Microsoft operating system (DOS or Windows). Try again.
Andy, andy... from east europe.... I think I know who is it:

LaTeX is the way to create text documents. I made my master thesis in LaTeX, I never needed to use Microsoft Office.
Money should be invested in projects like LyX, to join LaTeX power with friendly UI.
Why everyone want so much to "emulate" Windows environment, when there are so great alternatives? Why copy, and not create something new?

LateX on a 386? :)
:)
Text editor on 386. LaTeX later, on another computer. All you need is modem, ethernet, or floppy disk
All you need is good, new monitor, because old one can be bad for your eyes. Other parts of computer are perfect to use with completly new software.

And BTW many games get higher fps under linux than windows. Crappy indeed.
FPS is not everything. In Linux I could expect stability. Do you have framebuffer enabled?
