I'm trying to find out who is using Mozilla for their email. When I say "who" I mean organizationally, as I realize 99% of us geeks already use it.
This is 100% wrong and I don't understand why nobody wrote it yet. If 99% geeks use Mozilla for mail, then who uses Mutt, Pine, or Evolution? Mainstream people?
RTCW is a superb game multiplayer, but it stinks singleplayer.
Bullshit. RTCW is one of best single player FPS ever. Just look how lame Quake trilogy was. When I play RTCW on my Linux I feel like in old DOS times with Doom2.
Maybe p2p network which allows to spread fakes is just broken by design? In Edonkey2000 every file is identified by hash, so when you have correct hash it is not possible to fake that file in any way. Of course someone can still put fakes in network, but they won't spread. Overall - this is good thing, broken p2p networks will shrink, and good networks like edonkey will grow. Evolution.
I'm sorry, but I fail to see what you would call AI, then.
Solving new problems. Not just one thing, like simple board game.
I know Chinese Room argument. I think person inside room work like machine, he doesn't know anything, he just run algorithm. Book with rules is still a book. Memorized rules are memorized book. You not become intelligent by learning book.
And who cares about StarOffice? I don't use Star or OpenOffice. For documents I use LaTeX, gnumeric and Dia. OpenOffice is not Linux, just like Debian is not. Myth: Linux Is Free
Supported? You mean Linux on desktop means I need support? So when I used DOS without support I used non-desktop system? Server one maybe? Myth: Linux Means No Forced Upgrades
Software like TeX is not changing at all for years (or is TeX server software?). You need only to upgrade stuff like kernel and servers (remember? we are talking about desktop!) - to avoid crashes and crackers. Myth: Linux Management Is Easier
Fever viruses? What viruses?! Anyone this point is not so stupid like others. Myth: Skills Are Transferable
They are not in Windows. Microsoft changes things too fast.
Anyway - it was very lame criticizm of Linux on desktop. You need to get better arguments next time.
CHess is just simple game on small 8x8 board with very simple rules, without random events at all. Sure, you can say how fantastic game it is, how long history it has, etc, etc. But truth is there are many other more complex games, with bigger game tree, and if you add random events (like in backgammon)... It's funny that people think playing such simple game is proof that computer can think. And yes, I am pro-AI person.
First game like that was Wolfenstein3D. In dark room with headphones, I really feel andrealine was up. Then Spear of Destiny - same engine, just new, bette r art. Another one was Doom of course! You can't compare Doom with anymore else, but there was also less-known Wolf3D clone called Corridor7, it was simple, and people don't like it, but I found it very playable in old times. What after Doom? No, not Quake, No at all. Quake was never good game to me. But Thief! Yes, that's a scary game, you really must take care about your heart when playing all night in Thief and drinking coffee! Then Half Life! In single player of course. New games... RTCW maybe, but you can't compare it with HL. Unreal and Unreal2 were nice, but it's not real scary like Thief/HL. Have you noticed I said only about FPS games? I just can't find any other genre which were scary - adventure games maybe, but no good adventures has been released lately. Oh, and there is Alone in The Dark, but I think it's one of first TPP games. So it's almost FPS from another perspective.
Only debian Gnu/Linux is officially gnu because you can chose to select only licenses that are gpl except x11.
I heard that argument before, and I don't understand it at all. If Debian is GNU, then it's text mode only (+svgalib/fb) system, so all X application should be outside Debian. If they are in Debian, then it's not pure GPL. Then how it differs in being GNU from other distros, like Slackware?
Today we ask businessmen - should they hire a Journalist? Looks like people noticed that famous Journalist - Charles Manson - has very big experience in journalisting. He killed enough people to be famous and write interesting articles. Few other journalists said, that Charles is not really journalist, but criminal. We think they are just jealous that they are not so popular. In fact, we were unable to find journalist who will see difference between hacker and cracker.
Consider this argument the other way around: id releases Doom IV for Windows, XBox, PS2 and whatever other platforms there are out there. But it takes them forever to release the game on Linux.
IMHO this is nonsense. Carmack writes multiplatform code, porting is easy.
It has very interesting rules: with other 3 players you land on planet Irata (read backwards!) and start colonize it. Every turn you get and buy new plots, then put artificial mule on it. You not only decide what to produce, but also set price for buy/sell. There is true economy there!
Please notice year this game was released. Please notice hardware it runs - just 64KB of RAM! It's extremely playable and contains multiplayer support (wihout net of course). I don't know _any_ good clone of that game.
To be honest I started playing with Atari800 code, to play M.U.L.E. with my girlfriend (two joysticks support!).
I use Slackware 8.1 on my desktop and server. I checked slackware-current and I don't understand one thing. Why there is no single movie player in Slackware? IMHO mplayer is quite stable. I compile most applications myself, but I think it would be nice to have "everything important" on CD (or CDs).
LISP was written in 1958, one of the oldest high level languages for programming. BCPL (on which C is based) was written in 1967, and C was written in 1971. So are you trying to tell me that John McCarthy [stanford.edu] wrote LISP [stanford.edu] in a language which wasn't even going to be devised for another twenty three years?
IMHO NetHack is one of the best, or just best game in the world. One good feature is that you don't see anything, so you must use your imagination. And everyone has different imagination. The same happen when you read book. Movies are always worse than books, because they kill imagination of reader/viewer.
But from the other point of view - there are people who don't know NetHack. They play games like Diablo or NWN and think they are "unique", "innovative", better than anything else. Maybe thanks to this port then will download and play - enter amazing world of NetHack, and - BTW - enter world of Open Source.
And maybe even one day they will move from gfx port to hard core text version, and they will feel what we feel playing NH.
Company is able to pay $10 Billion, but is unable to create stable operating system.
And Linux just works, without half of Billion.

If there's a single 'monster' or 'alien' in the game, it automatically counts as poor single player TO ME.
You just called Doom poor single player game. How old are you?
RTCW is a superb game multiplayer, but it stinks singleplayer.
Bullshit. RTCW is one of best single player FPS ever. Just look how lame Quake trilogy was. When I play RTCW on my Linux I feel like in old DOS times with Doom2.
It's cool to watch its agony.
Seriously, I can't take a graphics package without an UNDO feature seriously.
Learn how to use save then.

Read article before you moderate that as flame.

Maybe now you realize why closed source drivers are worse.
We write Open Source software because THIS IS FUN.
Weening off of windows is always a good thing, but would it really hurt to leave a 10gig partition to play windows only games?
Reboot hurts. It takes about 30 seconds, and you stay in unfriendly environment, without true multitasking and your favourite applications.

Now Slashdot started post stories from 2033.
I was recently trying to get M.U.L.E. to work on my Atari emulator
M.U.L.E. works without any problems on Atari800.
M.U.L.E. is one of the best games ever.
It has very interesting rules: with other 3 players you land on planet Irata (read backwards!) and start colonize it. Every turn you get and buy new plots, then put artificial mule on it. You not only decide what to produce, but also set price for buy/sell. There is true economy there!

To be honest I started playing with Atari800 code, to play M.U.L.E. with my girlfriend (two joysticks support!).
M.U.L.E. is just perfect. Like NetHack or DOOM.
I use Slackware 8.1 on my desktop and server. I checked slackware-current and I don't understand one thing. Why there is no single movie player in Slackware? IMHO mplayer is quite stable. I compile most applications myself, but I think it would be nice to have "everything important" on CD (or CDs).
...can I run Linux on it?

1971 - 1958 = 13

First things first, it's almost impossible to connect to a server. They are ALWAYS full.
This is completly untrue. Probably you have just old server list, or you have no list and tried 3 or 4 random servers.
Even after you do connect to a server, search results are always minimal. I have a hard time finding anything on Edonkey, even "common" stuff.
Try jigle then say it again.
And with Edonkey's stupid hashing, if you only have part of a file, you have nothing.
Third false sentence. You should at least try to learn program you criticize.
I recommend using mldonkey, not official edonkey2000 client.
