    Um...I don't think Uber charges less. Just sayin'.

    They don't. I took two Uber rides on Friday afternoon and they charge just as much as taxis. The pickup time is much faster in the suburbs, so that's a nice advantage. But I suspect that at peak times on weekend nights, Uber will be much more expensive.

    And that budget immediately gets thrown in the trash, unread. Congress funds things against the Executive Branch's wishes all the time.

    Of course you can. I have many times. You have to spin it as "I'm a good employee who loves to follow procedures, so let's do this by the book" and not in a defiant, overtly CYA way.

    Because Tesla sacrifices aerodynamic drag for styling, because they have big expensive battery packs. When the Nissan Leaf was designed, every decision was based on minimizing drag, and thus maximizing range. It has big weird bug eye headlights, which create bubbles of low pressure around the side view mirrors at highway speeds.

    It isn't about "harming" anyone. These subreddits got banned for the same reason that /r/jailbait got banned years ago- they bring shitty people to the site, who then vote and post in all of the other subreddits.

    Or far more worryingly, the possibility that explosives might be dropped on public events or something similar.

    The good news there is that the weight capacity of consumer class drones is still pretty low. A pound of heroin is a lot. A pound of explosives really isn't. You could kill a few people in a crowd. But if your goal is a large scale terrorist attack, that's not a very effective method.

    Bullshit. Bill Gates's net worth peaked in 1999 with Microsoft's stock price. He has gotten significantly less rich since then and has donated far more money.

    That's a main goal of IBM's Watson project. They didn't spend millions of dollars just trying to impress Alex Trebek.

    If the government imposes content-based restrictions on speech as a condition of issuing a permit, that's unambiguous government censorship.

    The Supreme Court ruled in 1977 that that's illegal.

    I was active on Slashdot early on, and then recently came back. Can someone tell me what the hell happened to this site? Was there a specific event that made all of the smart people leave, or was it gradual? Or did some event cause thousands of idiots to start posting here?

    Because this thread is amazing. It makes the comments at the bottom of a Fox News article seem rational and intelligent.

    If you're going to tell that story, at least tell it right. They weren't "a threat" to British Petroleum. The government nationalized (aka stole) all of BP's assets in Iran. The British government was understandably displeased. This was at the height of the Cold War when people were freaking out about the spread of Communism. So the British government supported a coup, and their US allies helped them.

    The huge difference being that all of those policies were pushed by Congress, usually controlled by the other party, and then signed by the President.

    Tsirpas was the one who called the referendum last week, encouraged voters to vote "no" to the deal, which they overwhelmingly did, and then agreed to a worse deal days later. It's immensely more incompetent than anything you mentioned.

    Gov't "nationalizes" the building and gives away the apartments to peasants...? If you're the gov't, you don't care if some investor loses his shirt, you want useful stuff that you can give to the masses to keep them from overthrowing you.

    The Chinese gov't doesn't define "assets" the same way as a Western banker would.

    Giving away apartments in "ghost cities" doesn't solve anything. There are no jobs are supporting infrastructure.
