This dumbass tries to propel himself into the strata of the intellectual elite with overblown, pompous, yet utterly vapid excuses and long-winded rationalizations.
Forgot to address this, but basically he has to take this stance. He is being charged in a federal court of law and the stakes are high. you have to take every possible excuse you have and crank it up to ten in the hopes that something sticks and gets you out of trouble. This is how the american court system works. Alternatively, if your issue lies in his prose, form a line, you're not the first.
It's all fun and "lulz" until he gets in trouble, then comes the sobbing. Pathetic.
That's the same impression I came away with after reading the conversations between jason and "jerry," one of the more vocal victims of this prank. He simply wanted to go out and enjoy some rouch sex with the most minimal amount of effort possible (ie want ads). But when he got in trouble (ie pics on the web) suddenly he is sobbing and crying foul, claiming he did nothing wrong and jason's post of his pics are lies etc etc...
Let me ask you: Let's say he had placed a fake ad offering a free usb mouse and keyboard combo, and then posted all the responses he recieved on his blog. How would you feel about that? Would he still be a jackass? Where would your stance be on the privacy issue? And how much merit would the court case have?
I can use deductive reasoning to find my way out of a forest, and it would indeed be the search for truth (the same as the search for scientific truth), but I will still be "emotionally biased" in that I will want the end of the forest to be right over the hill. I have no reason to stop if my hopes are incorrect.
I am not sure why you posted this, syousef I think I am missing your point.
I said this earlier, but it bears repeating. He hasn't been charged with fraud because he has not committed fraud. It is only fraud when the victor (heh, never put victor victim together before) gets some form of personal gain out of the situation. Since there was no gain, there is no fraud.
The guy pulled a lame prank and nothing more; some people thought it was funny, others thought it was a violation. I didn't think much of it one way or the other as I fail to see the humiliation (I can see how some may be in violation of there marital agreements, but that is there problem, not Jason's). It certainly isn't something deserving of punishment.
Honestly I am surprised that there are so many conservative views WRT this subject on slashdot. People have genitalia. People like sex. People like wierd kink and nonsense and indecent internet exposure via email. So what? If he posted an ad offering a free patching lathe, and then posted all the responses on his blog what would the crime be then? And would you have the same feelings about the situation? What is it about sex that makes everyone so frenetic?
On a side note: It's articles like the one the NYT posted and this Metaarticle as well that reinforces the trolls. They see how much exposure they might get and so it is recapitulated. Your posts are troll candy. if you don't like it there is always that other internet with the blackjack and the hookers.
It's only after he gets in trouble that he begins his furtive explanations and backpeddling about how it was all really for the common good, an argument I don't think anyone takes seriously.
I fail to see your point. Isn't that the same thing the "victim" did once he found his photos on the internet? Both parties seem like relatively low level scumbags here, but short of violating a handful of TOS's on various webpages I see no crime here. Even a fraud based civil suit would fail unless they could prove personal gain, and I don't think lulz count...
Why don't you get a part time job at the local blockbuster? Work there for two days (@ 5 hours per shift), then bring in all your damaged disks and repair them while you are standing around. Then you're getting paid to fix your disks!
Once they develop that pill most society will cease, we'll just all live in the forest being beautiful. Maybe that's how elves got started? I for one, welcome our Morlock overlords!
Someone better be writing a custom Civilation designed just for the wii, or I may just start believing all those nintendo anti-fans... Seriously, why is this not here?!?
Is this what passes for a decent news article these days? Why is this kid "scouring the city?" Is it a college project? A city request? Boredom? Is it a permanent thing? An art installation? Did cement staop working? What is with the poor sentence structure?
This reads like gossip from a disinterested stoner.
You have to take a lot of bad to get alot of good. The sentiment of your post is similar to statements calling for Non-nuetralality, and in my opinion will be the argument that leads us to it. When you start saying "unfiltered internet, except the stuff I don't like," THAT is when the internet is lost. It's true that this is a bad situation, but I would hardly call the vulnerabilities of an oudated (but admittedly popular) OS a fault of the internet.
Now that's just silly. First off, if they are not technically oriented, you would simply drop them into dummy mode and then feed them instructions. Second, chances are since you were the one to set up the program, you would be the one to sign in and get the location data. Then you would call the authorities and say "according to my gps-enabled tracking software, the laptop is at location X," and they would send out a detective. If the detective is unwilling to accept your data, then you are parsing it wrong.
Korea spends a lot of its time being nationalistic (just look at the anti-U.S. mad cow demonstrations happening now), yet they send I-don't-know-how-many-billions of dollars to the U.S. for Windows XP every year
I don't know, single handedly funding vist'a R&D sounds pretty anti-U.S. to me.
And how, exactly, does oil not require energy input? For that matter (bad pun, I know), can you think of any exchange that does not require energy input? The goal here is to find a renewable, lasting portable supply of cheap energy. For what it's worth "high heat" is a pretty abundant and cheap form of energy; using it to create a fuel source from waste sounds like a good option (although I would wait for actual data before investing).
Essentially wouldn't this be the same as having an 8 platter HD (aside from the slower moving read head)? This could easily outperfom a 2-4 platter Hard drive, no?
Don't you think it's a bit retarded to give my comment a +5 funny, and give the OP a -1 offtopic? It was quite relevant to the thread, I would go so far as to suggest it was informative. Can we all start paying more attention to context in addition to content?
The ' isn't that far from the # and makes sense when seen in context with the s/l typo. However, after reviewing the german keyboard, I see that the s/l was actually a missing letter, and not a misspelling.
it's Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A.

What a dick method for getting the last word.

That question goes right up there with "Was Deckard a replicant?"
If anyone in the UK is willing, I will set up a hulu proxy on my IP in exchange for access to BBC...

HP does this. My elite 9300 has a button on the front of the system. Configuration was a breeze.

But was there any abuse?
Ehh, I'll get to it.

For the uninformed.
