In fact many companies are also breathing a sigh of relief along with us techies, but for different reasons. They don't want their users watching videos while they should be working.
Um, no. What part of
“On March 13, we are dropping support for your browser. You’ll still be able to watch videos after that date, but new features may not work properly.”
There is nothing to see here folks, move on. The bug kicks in only under certain circumstances. The circumstances are apparently running a Windows system with Internet Explorer as the default browser. Come on, how many slashdotters do that?
All the slackers browsing the intarwebs from work?
If Homeland Security tried to spy on us with drones, it would become a sport to shoot them down. And they WOULD go down, too. Lots of expensive wreckage.
But I guess they'd have footage of the culprit who shot it down and let him pay for the expensive wreckage...
First it's gotta download that 7 Meg file, then Adobe's gotta kick start, and then it doesn't let me highlight anything to keep me from copying and pasting.
And re:slow & bloated; just go to the plugin directory and delete anything you have no need for (ie. most of it). Voilà, fast-booting, non-bloated adobe reader.
imnsho, anything xpdf-based is way slower than acrobat in page-rendering, and generally not clever enough to search ligatured words.
The majority of people ALREADY know how to talk on the cell phone and drive safely, through experience.
Oh yes, of course, the higher accident rate is only caused by those drivers involved being stupid gits, not because they happened to be phoning/texting. Jeez, how come nobody noticed this before?
Like I heard some kids say last year, I would rather have a crap laptop with the internet than a nice laptop without (said about a Christmas present last year that was a disappointment)
And what does “having the internet” have to do with the OS?
Why is it that the US seems to have such a high value on free speech
What makes you say that? Is it the "free speech zones" at the Republicrat national conventions or Lenny Bruce's multiple arrests for saying "four letter words" on stage?
I guess that “seems” is the most important word there...
Holy blap, what part of "crap" don't you understand?
A LaTeX document with lots of formulas doesn't automagically mean proper science, you know.
See this and this.
And thrown in for good measure: The Myth of the 1970s Global Cooling Scientific Consensus
Peer review indeed isn't a guarantee for proper science if easily-debunkable crap like this can get through peer review.

Umm because IE is shit, lagging about 3 years behind the rest. They STILL have not managed to produce a *fully* standards compliant browser.
Well, IE is shit, but currently there isn't any browser that's fully standards-compliant.
HTML5/SVG next-generation browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Epiphany, and other Web-Kit based browsers
i.e. anything non-IE :)
He could have not been taking pictures of a sewer grate.
Now that's terrism.
News at eleven:slashdot editor posts non-story.
I wouldn't buy anything from Microsoft with a ten foot pole, even if they were on fire.
I don't think ten-foot poles are considered legal tender.
They don't lie

My girlfriend
Who's lying now?
As if slashdotters would search for exercise bikes...
decade = 2001-2010
But at least they didn't make it a 87-page article.
If anything, it shows that charts are pretty worthless these days, regardless of who decides the #1 spot.

At least the quality of vinyl is better than 128k mp3...
Research finds that it takes a slashdot drone 23 months to report a story.
I felt a great disturbance in the Smug, as if millions of fanboys suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Don't be daft.. Nothing can silence fanboys.
Even the exploits just work!

Without the West, India is still a big nothing !
And vice versa :p
