Jacek Artymiak explicitly states (no less than three times) in his book, Building Firewalls with OpenBSD and PF, Second Edition, that you shouldn't install source code and a compiler on your pf box (firewall). To quote him from page 71, "There is just too much possible risk" in doing so. While he doesn't go into the minutiae of the consequences, one can guess that if the pf box were compromised, you are giving the attacker everything he/she needs to own your box. I recommend you read his book and refer to pages 71, 72, and 101 for his statements on this scenario.

But even more important, you are now embarking on your first Linux installation, and I suspect that within a year or less, you'll have installations of several different Linux distros under your belt. It's contagious, I tell you, trying out different distros. Anyway, like I said... Enjoy!
Speaking of women, perhaps Kevin Johnson should promote more women (and less men) into that long list of VPs. It's interesting that the only woman on that list is an attorney, presumably in charge of cleaning up the mess created by the many men at the top.

While I largely agree with your post, I think it is important to keep in mind the caste system within your country when speaking of your ability to afford a chauffer, housemaid, chef, etc.
