Officially ATT only supports windows machines. Everybody else is out in the cold. I installed the software myself and only recently discovered their spyware. I didn't know that I was getting a bunch of junk.
to have the Xbox play PS2 games. This would involve building an emulator and would be very difficult with the PS/2's proprietary hardware.
Bleem! tried this with the PS-one emulator for the PC. They were never able to get it working without bugs and it was not able to play all the PS-one games. They eventually went out of business (and the fact that Sony was suing them left and right didn't help either).
What they are doing is loading an earlier version of the firmware. So it really isn't "fixing" the problem. If you follow the link in the parent post it is questionable as to the efficacy of this. As I quoted: "During reads RAID0 array made of drives with any firmware version is always slower (sometimes significantly!) than a single drive".
They are supposed to come out with Barracuda V series drive this month, and I am sure that they will be benchmarked in Raid configurations eventually by somebody. There really needs to be more benchmarking in this area.
Personally, I would say that in a single drive system they would be great as is. But if I was looking for higher performance Raid (rather than just a marginal improvement that the "new (which it isn't)" firmware provides) I would go with the samsungs. If you read some of the posts at storagereview.com some OEMS have reported installing hundreds of them without a single failed drive and swear by them. And their noise figures according to the parent article are respectable. I figure what you lose in noise (3-4 db) you gain with reliability.
If you are picky about the hard drive noise (I am) you could also try one of these. They are rated for 5400 rpm only though and make your drive run hot.
I should have been more specific in my post. But this is enough of a problem that Seagate is offering replacement drives to users. Do a search at storagereview.com
They do work in Raid 0, but they work slowly There really aren't any performance gains in Raid 0, and in small block access - the majority of use that these drives will see they are slower than a single drive I quote from this article "During reads RAID0 array made of drives with any firmware version is always slower (sometimes significantly!) than a single drive". Note that this article covers only Raid 0 configurations.
I do not think that the quality of the controller is going to make a difference either. Raid 0 is Raid 0 no matter what controller you are using. The result however, is highly dependant on how the way the drives handle sequential access. Whether the Adaptec controller or a cheapie onboard controller sends a read request to the drives makes no difference -- it's still a read request. Besides, other hard drives work ok with the "cheap" raid controllers.
Also, more and more motherboard makers are including raid controllers onboard (Raid 0 or 1). Many of these users will opt for the performance gains that Raid 0 should offer, but will not find it using Seagate Barracuda IV ata drives. That statement is not FUD, it is FACT.
The most quiet drives, the seagate Barracuda IV atas have a problem in Raid configurations. When used in a Raid configuration, the performance is less than a single drive by itself. Raid is not officially supported by this drive. More here.

That is not entirely true. If it can be "printed" then it would fall under copyright law. So somebody (if and when Mickey reaches the public domain) could take "Steamboat Willy" and print it on their mousetrap packages.
Even though Disney as a line of "Mickey Mouse (TM)" shirts, their would still be nothing to prevent somebody from "printing" Mickey on their own T-shirts.
Disney has very deep pockets though, so I am sure that they will try to litigate knockoffs out of existance anyway. It would be interesting to watch.
The pyramid builder's spirits right now are having a good laugh. It's the "We will put another door right after the first so we can fool everybody on live TV!!"
Actually original betamax could not record a full two hours on tape whereas VHS could. This did play a role in consumer perception. This book goes into detail.
An interesting book on the VHS/Beta story

I enjoy a good drink like any late night nerd does. But it is too easy to "OD" on caffeine without knowing it. I have some links to provide food for thought;
I am not saying give up your drinks. But I am saying be smart about it. Don't drink/eat so much caffeine that you make yourself feel miserable with the symptoms of too much caffeine. while it is thought that 10 grams is a fatal overdose, I would be willing to bet that a fraction of that can make you feel pretty miserable and is very easily reached with some of the caffeinated drinks/candies/pills out there. A couple liters of mountain dew, four red bulls, and a handful of penguine mints or any combination thereof places you at about 1 gram.
It goes without saying drinking alcohol at the same time exacerbates things.
Also, caffeine is not a substitute for sleep. There are reasons that the body needs to sleep. So if you are depriving your body of sleep for whatever reason you need to start asking yourself what your priorities are. Sleep "binging" where you go without sleep all week and catch up on the weekends is also unhealthy, but this is another topic in itself.
This post is not intended to be medical advice. See your doctor if you have any questions/symptoms. Yada yada yada.

exactly!!! The "underwear gnomes" of southpark fame. I was wondering when somebody would catch my volley.
a tax deduction. Maybe the Gnome Foundation can use some old underwear????
They don't need to put them in radio because radio is dead anyway (with the exception of NPR -- the butterfly in the roach motel).
click on the "hof" link right under the "jobs" link on the left hand of the page.

hof is "hall of fame"
The idea of a grown man in a butterfly suit quite frankly scares me.
Hopefully this will help them retain important members of their sales and service teams
One can always hope, can't they???

That ebay has a problem with selling CDRs, but doesn't have a problem with selling pornography.
Too bad they are an online monoply, leaving no choice for those who want an alternative.

From this report here the justicew seemed concerned with the "chaos" invalidating the CTEA would have on previoous copyright extensions.

Sure. Check this book out from your local library for full details on the role sleep plays in our lives. A sobering read.
