The only problem I see is finding a spacesuit to fit Grizzly Adams.
This is an highly entertaining read, esp. about the early days of computing and the technical problems they had to overcome.
There were others that followed and you could for a time buy a "shoe computer" ready made for your game of choice, usually blackjack, as that lends itself to counting.
But now the casinoes have _very sophisticated_ computer detectors (that this article doesn't mention) that will detect the hash generated by your wearable computer at the tables. I believe that a number of shoe computers are on display confiscated from those who they managed to catch down in las vegas.
Also, I am sure they keep a close eye with countless cameras to see if you are operating any buttons under your shirt. And they probably intercept all radio traffic to and from any accomplice you may have.
All of the games that they have have evolved to a very high level of cheat resistance.
Even the traditional blackjack shoe is being replaced with an all electronic/mechanical shuffler that completely foils all methods of counting quite handily.
It would seem that Vegas is becoming "less fun" esp. with the high costs of shows and buffets that were once given away gratis. I guess you could say that it is just a business after all.
As a pornography attractor? LINUX as a PORNOGRAPHY attractor? I think it's worth letting the trademark thing slide for a while just to see what comes of that one.
Because as every nerd knows, you have to be ready for that hot chick you meet at the magazine aisle while you glance at Linux Format -
"oooh baby, what Linux distro do you run??? can I put my fingers through your hair??"
Obviously, nerds need to be protected from this behavior.
Though I wonder if we call it GNU/Linux we can get out of paying the fee. Maybe we were wrong for calling RMS a crazy hippie for wanting to change the name. Maybe he really is a visionary....
Sorry to see you got modded down. But this really does smack of "lawyers looking for a job". It also smacks of something that we would expect of one of the *AA or evil comapny(tm).
I can understand trying to protect the name, but turning it over to a bunch of lawyers who will shake you down for your lunch money seems extreme.
I think that the WINE project will eventually advance far enough that one of the commercial DVD apps would work out of the box.
So eventually you could dump the windows partition. Also, there is MythTV/mplayer, but I do not know how well that handles DVDs, as I have not tried it. But I assume you already know about them.
I think that a sense of perspective is necessary (and sorely lacking) in the Linux community.
As much as linux is a clone of Unix, Unix is 35 year old technology, back when tape as a storage medium was all the rage.
I think for a nerd's purpose (justifying his 1337ness) it does a wonderful job. But as an operating system for the masses it does fall short.
And this is what Apple capitalizes on. I just wish that the there wasn't such a disconnect between open source ideals (such as accessible computing for everyone) and the old (and it is old) technology used to forward them.
If all those touting open source would stop hanging on to boat-anchor old unix clone linux (with its monolithic kernel) maybe the unwashed masses would see the light and we could get away from evil-empire software that has a new exploit daily.
This is just my personal opinion, not a flame. I have heard all the arguments about this before, so I really do not need to hear them again in responses to this post.
has the FCC not essentially said that it does not interfere in matters for wifi and other unlicensed bands?
All the FCC has said is that a license is not required for equipment operation. However, technical matters relating to radiating (and for that matter receiving) RF do not "go away". The FCC exercises it's authority where it is needed (and sometimes where it is not - ie broadcast flag) in all matters RF, large and small. In fact one whole section of federal law is devoted to nothing but telecommunications under the FCC.
The FCC takes matters of RF interference very seriously, and there is in fact a process where you can file a complaint.
While the WiFi bands are unlicensed, I do know that there are maximum power limits (offhand I believe 1 watt) that may be transmitted.
So if you want to try and "up" the power by making a couple of quick mods to your equipment to get extended range, you would be breaking the law. Often when this is done, the equipment will start radiating in adjacent frequency bands that are used by other services, and those people will notice and file a complaint.
The nature of the infringement will often determine the response. The FCC is very well known for having a fleet of nondescript black vans that say "FCC" on the side with a bunch of antennas on top. They are equipped to listen in on most any frequency and will determine the location by simple direction finding. At which time the often will show up on the doorstep of the offending party with a couple of FBI agents/US Marshalls and confiscate your equipment, arrest and prosecute you in federal court. Which can lead to jail time and nauseatingly hefty fines.
Here are a couple of examples . There are dozens more that don't make the news.
On the surface without investigating deeply, I believe that Logan Airport's complaint is a bald faced lie. If they are having problems with RFI from an unmodified WiFi transmitter which operates in the ++GHz Bands, then they must be having problems with cell phones and cell phone towers and countless other unintentional electronic radiators. What's more, such problems would indicate serious security issues with their equipment that should be dealt with, instead of trying to manipulate the FCC because (in reality) somebody is not paying up.
But in short, both statements in your post - that the FCC won't get involved and that it is a matter for nuisance law are completely false, and should not have been modded up.
Unfortunately, the coin has already been tossed. The problem at this point is that an economic blockade of China would be the same as taking a pistol to our own (economic) head. Not just because China fuels Walmart, but because China owns a substantial amount of our debt.
But where's the harm in watching a grown man eat poop?
I guess it's kinda like the harm in clicking on a goatsecx link.
Go get'em FBI!! And don't forget to burn the negatives!!
Its too bad we only have one giant eye in the sky..
Don't worry, there is another one. We will always have this giant eye in the sky.
Steve Balmer will wear a frickin' laser on his forehead now. I'd watch out if I was you.
For some of us "Dork" is a genetic predisposition and we can't do any thing about it.
As long as it has Amiga OS compatibility.
Then... Profit!!!
No - then get modded down.
I do not think that the intent was to do away with traditional concepts, as those can always be be taught.
But a new way of looking at the concepts surrounding triangles is fascinating in itself.
Think of it as a new tool, rather than a replacement.
As someone who has studied higher college math, this new concept certainly has more usefulness than some others already out there.

All available foam-coating engineers have been reassigned to the Superdome.
Because if they foam-coat all the people there they will float better in the water??
Some government response is better than no government response I say...
but one that simply doesn't carry the Linux brand name (like a "generic" pharmaceutical)
I really think that's an excellent idea.
Maybe Minix++
or "the operating system formerly known as linux" and whe can have some funky symbol.
or "Get the hell off my codebase, or I shoot"
or "Some bits on a CDRom"
or "Use this, but we can't tell you what it is wink wink. It's pretty stable though."
If we have to go through this exercize, it may as well as be meaningful.
There were a couple of different groups that pioneered portable wearable computers for such things.
This group that called themselves the eudamonic pie is one of the most famous.

Slashdot's epitaph will read "Nothing for you to see here. Please move along."
Not to mention the term "modded down" will have a new dimension to it.
We really need to get this moderation thing under control.

Wouldn't that be the iJet or PowerJet?
That's correct. And if something were to happen during flight they could escape by using their iPods.

Incredibly, you've missed this opportunity to keep your mouth shut (or hands from typing)
It's always hard for the linux zealots to hear the truth, isn't it?? (as you can also tell by my post moderation).

He built an underwater ROV because that's where all the girls are.
I think making the comparison between companies and schools restricting the internet and the Chinese government censoring "Democracy" is ludicrous.
I also suppose you think it's alright that those tanks rolled over those people in Tiananmen Square too??
Can space travel provide efficient transportation?
No, I think the real question is can the armrests withstand superhuman squeezing forces?

I think the distinction would be that the Matches primary purpose is not Arson, while the primary purpose of the Cisco Routers is censorship.
To say otherwise is to deny the obvious. The kind of argument you make is "stick your head in the sand" .
