What's wrong with frequency hopping? That allows many people to use the same stuff in the same local at the same time.. and since it's such low bandwidth.. a little interferance doesn't hurt.. would you rather slow? or not at all? Direct Sequence will shut down if it gets interferance on the channel, frequency hopping will keep going if it gets interferance on a channel.

I administer a mail server for an ISP of about 20,000 customers. We see mail come in all the time with JUST customers addresses in them. I've actually had to explain to several customers of ours that we don't sell information, because they came to the same conclusion. I think spammers must be wising up or something and sending all the e-mails to one domain in a CC or something rather then seperate e-mails... takes less effort/bandwidth.

ABS Do *not* as the above poster said, make you stop faster. Rather, they allow you to maintain steering and control over your car ( at least in theory ). The reason we need ABS is because people can't drive. A skilled driver (I am not one) can make the breaks not lock up in the first place, and stop much faster then an ABS can.

Same "principal" applies to two way radios.. Like in a car... for some reason people feel if they can't hear themselves (ie over the roar of an open window in a car) that they need to talk louder into the mic.. which actually just distorts them to the end listener. Just talk normally, even if you can't hear yourself and everything will be fine.

We have several servers running 7.3.. They run just fine. it's linux and really as long as you keep your apps and kernel up2date everything is fine. The only advantage I can see to upgrading to another version of RH is the apps that come along with it. So if the server is running RH7.3 with all patches and software upgrades on it.. I say let it run. In fact my OS of choice for servers is RH7.3 because I feel that anything above that is starting to become bloat ware. I just install 7.3.. do up2dates and customize to my liking. Has worked well so far.

I couldn't ping our core router, nothing... YIKES! So I hiked into work... only to find that 3 machines had been compromised. A co-lo we have, and some other ones. Nothing bad mind you.. easy to fix.. install Service Pack, and then firewall the ports out.. but still.... it was interesting.. I walked into the server room and was greated with a ton of orange lights (that are normally just blinking!) That thing can really cook out the damage!

I don't know.... it just doesn't work to have one station that you can listen to all the time. You miss locality... and people like that. ClearChannel is trying to do an XM like setup but with FM. They own tons of radio stations which they run all under one roof.. and they are all computer run. But, while the music may be there the localities.. and personalities are not. In addition, with XM you don't have the localness that you do with DJ Bob and the morning show talking about something that happened 1 town over the previous evening.

Sooner or later ClearM (Clear Channel Radio) is going to fail as well... due to the fact that they are not marketing to the locals but the masses... they have tons of stations that all play the same ads.. and different music... just doesn't work that way.
