You've been brainwashed by modern marketing and sales into thinking that anything that is only 8 years old is not worthy. Most new netbooks are not much faster. Congratulations on being part of the descent to Idiocracy.
Where i work i proposed using it to send alerts to students and faculty.
Then you need a mailing list manager, such as Mailman on your campus network. Guaranteed to have a much better up time and long term availability that Twatter.
The "fatigue" part comes in when you use a technology more or less all the time and are constantly bombarded by "updates" and "upgrades" almost every other day for all of the products that you use. It becomes an exercise in "Ok, what the frak did they change this time and why [for no apparent reason other than whatever]? And what the frak did they break or change [what I'm used to] this time?". After awhile you just want to kick "them" in the nuts -- multiple times.
Good luck trying to compete with Google in any area that they are in without having massively deep financial pockets and huge revenue from sources completely unrelated to the service or product you are trying to provide.
Really makes you wonder if these folks have anything better to do with their lives, other than spend countless hours applying heavy thought and mathematical algorithms to such a problem...
Walmart sells cheap imported crap. Bought a pair of walking shoes from Walmart for $20. They didn't last 3 weeks. Bought a pair of walking shoes from a sports store for $120 and 3 years later they are still going strong.
By keeping an eye on Safeway's sales and promotions, I found them to be cheaper in the long run than Walmart. Safeway also has far less white trash running around the place and the Safeway staff are helpful and actually know where everything is.
You need to do a clean, minimal, from scratch XP install on your Mini. I did that with mine and don't see any of the things you say you are. Turning off all the pointless XP eye-candy crap really makes it feel snappy.
Really, really uninstall it? As in "uninstall" will delete all the IE files off of your storage device? Or just make the links disappear and keep most, if not all, of the files around so that Windows 7 can keep functioning?
Maybe because your "Cloud" running at Amazon/Google/Microsoft competes with one of their other online services?
What is a "Britney Spears"?

In about 3 or 4 years when current Macbook Pros are up on eBay...

> because they'd bought a low-priced machine expecting Windows and opened it to find a different interface
That would then imply that once Windows 7 starts shipping on low-priced machines, returns will go through the roof because of "a different interface".
Think of it this way:
iPhone == Windows (closed source)
Palm Pre == FOSS
An even better solution is on Adobe's own web site: How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Then why do so many of us turn the 'awesomebar' crap off?
As in "When using the location bar, suggest: Nothing".
Universal Silly Bus AKA "USB".
Just how [in]competent is the management here?
This meme, and the "In Soviet Russia" meme, died and ceased to be funny about, what, 5 years ago?
Where is it that Google has a monopoly again?

Every time I see "Segway", I don't see the word "Segway", I see the word "Smegway". Only because a smeghead would buy one of those.

Tells me the study was really paid for by corporate interests.

I'd suspect the vulnerability and solution was such a cluster frak, that it took that long to work it out without royally fraking everything else up.
The fix to all Flash problems lies here on Adobe's own web site: How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control.
And rap/hip hop culture look/style these days doesn't?
Greed corrupts; absolute greed corrupts absolutely. Welcome to capitalism, comrade.
