You really need to do your immigration research first. Unless you find a sponsor as far as work visas go, and then go through an extensive process to get a green card, don't even bother trying...
Why not just get an off lease small form factor machine? A couple of weekends ago I picked up a 1.7GHz P4 HP Vectra unit for $160 CAD. Dropped in some spare RAM and a 200GB EIDE drive. Presto bingo bongo, instant whateverIwant box.
I finally got around to downloading and installing Firefox 1.5.
Three hangs, two outright crashes and one system reboot to get it going again, in less that a couple of hours, and it gets best product of 2005? And this is on a machine which had WinXP freshly installed along with Sun's JRE 1.5.0_05.
I was going to add that Cisco did not do their due diligence - the Scientific Atlanta HDTV cable boxes are absolute crap. I've gone through two of them so far. They run way too hot and eventually die. Not to mention the bugs in the software. I can consistently cause mine to go wierd to the point that I have to unplug the power from the back of the unit.

Which covers like over 80% of Americans. This is the #1 reason why SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans are so popular - they need large vehicles to haul their fat arses around...
Personally, I was disappointed with Serenity. Expectations where set high with all the glowing preview reviews. Visually, it was too dark. Camera work left much to be desired. Special effects shots where too short - let us enjoy the visuals for fsck sakes! Dialog was hokey. Acting was hokey. Soundtrack couldn't decide what genre it was. Bottom line, amateurish move making effort.
I was wondering how long it would be before someone came up with the right answer...for a site that has thousands of 'puter geeks, it sure took awhile...
Beg to differ, Google is nothing until they can solve the last mile problem, i.e. getting sufficient bandwidth to run all of the above browser borkware.
Too bad many of the kids here will not get that at all (without the help of Google)...

They want to do everything in Java - even a basic web site.

i.e. Been there, done that, back in Canada.
...as long as the network cable is physically disconnected...
Who wrote that? The Marketing Department?

Fark me.
Probably brought in a couple of high school kids to slap this together for a term project.
Gnobs.
...and don't forget to give everything a new, academic, name.
...and cow bells...
What, no Smoke and Mirrors(tm)?
