    It's considered a luxury.

Or an option for people who do not care about performance. There is still the widespread illusion that automatic transmissions shift at sub-optimal moments. Many people want to control shifting gears themselfs and regard automatic transmissions as inferior. Even more so for (much more efficient and responsive) Continuous Variable Transmission (invented in the Netherlands). Those were marketed as "so easy even your grandmother can drive one" and are subsequently associated with granny's driving performance.

If you are looking for a relationship, a long time of "not getting any" may interfere with that. Although I'm 100% loyal to my girlfriend (soon to be wife) and definately am planning to stay that way, I do think that I would not have been able to appriciate her as much on the first date, if sexual frustration would have been clouding my judgement. It wasn't, because I had a purely sexual thing with another woman to relieve urges a month before I met her.

I believe that God gave me a brain to think with and make intelligent decisions, not allow my loins to drive me.

Yes. Allowing myself to get that out of the way was maybe one of the most intelligent and courageous decisions I ever made. It is the way you go about it that determines wether you stay true to yourself. I am a honest man before all, so I was honest with this woman. I told her I wouldn't love her, but would be OK with satisfying eachothers urges. Everything clear. We slept together for a month, and when I ended it she came over to thank me for the way I always had been honest with her. Then she moved on to a serious relationship with someone else and so did I.

So, having sex just for the physical pleasure with someone who knows very well that there is no emotional commitment and never will be has two effects: It satisfies part of your needs and at the same time points out that sex was not all you were really looking for, intimacy was. It clears the frustrations and puts a focus on what you really want.

For those wondering: this is not some secret that will be a timebomb to my mariage: I think I told my future wife within the first month of going out.
