I did.
I work at universities as a project manager. Last project was a quicky, 1 month. The university is all MS, but I decided tot use OOo instead, since waiting for the IT dept. to get me MS Office (as I should have according to them) would have taken the whole month.
After a month, I handed in a cd containing teh pdf's of all my finished work,.doc/.xls files to satisfy my boss, and.sxw and.sxc files as the original files. I included the OOo 1.1 install + spelllcheck so people could edit those. My boss and some others were very interested!
isn't it ".. the future is bright, the future is Orange"? I know the slogan in that way, and did not connect this slogan to only the last part of the Orange slogan.
Well, maybe it's just me...
Saddam did invade Kuwait over oil. The wars were not for the economic benefit of the oil, but for the political control over it. The US and others cannot have Iraq controling the oil production in the middle east. Especially the USA have a huge "hunger" for oil they cannot fill themselves, despite their considerable production.
It's rather an interesting experience to be called "stupid tool" by an Anonymous Coward, while it remains to be seen who is more of an expert on the subject (Hint: although the site in my sig is in Dutch, it is about a University study program that focusses on Sustainability, dealing with the same subjects as this discussion, but on a scientific level. I work here. By the way, the International Master Program on this subject is on its way and should start in another year!).
If the real costs of obtaining the fuel would be charged to the consumer, people would have turned to electricity and renewable sources a long time ago.
Yes, that would include the cost of the pollution generated by using fosil fuels.
Yes, that would include the cost of a war over oil.
My paper agenda does not beep, my palm does. That makes a HUGE difference if you have meetings but may be absorbed in something else and therefore may forgert time...
OK. what I meant was that pointing out that Linux is viable in some areas and will reduce cost there, while in others it would reduce costs but introduce some inconvenience, will give a more balanced approach and will make things that are clear to us also clear to PHBs
By showing pro's and con's you give the signal that you did not just "try" this on something while leaving the boss clueless on why it is not a good idea for his own desktop computer. And who knows, depending on the situation, it might even be a viable option after all...
Very true, but also try to figure out how much it would cost you to start using desktop Linux (and if that would be wise in yur situation) in situations where a group of desktop computers would be replaced and you would become subject to heavy new licencing
It may not be profittable, since switching half might increase your support costs for supporting two systems and interoperability costs may arrise, but it will strenghten your case if you look into non-viable options as well and show that you are nt just advocating change, but only usefull change.
People die if you shoot them???? I can't just believe that! Do you have any independent research to prove that?
If you monitored them with consent, couldn't that introduce a bias?
If they were monitored without consent, wouldn't that be a breech of privacy?
[Hell no, I didn't read the article. If the answer is there, You will tell me next, won't you?]

keep on burnin', you're still at +2.
must be tiresome, discussing something with yourself and having to remember whether to log in or not at the next post...
I think they will have access to max. 10000 unique numbers! (given a 4-digit PIN)
Just read the article and clicked "back". Old Style. Worked for me...
Why was he modded funny? It's a problem!!!!!!
It seems also geographicly biased:
Dutch studies show no effects, french studies show huge effects.
Couldn't be political now, could it?
So, qwestion is: who ordered these studies? If they are US- governmentt sponsored, be sure to find adverse effects with any drug...
Sometimes it's just to simple: try right-clicking on a desktop to create a shortcut to cmd.exe. It is sometimes allowed!
