That is a lousy fix and just postpones the problem. Changing your definition
of time_t (from signed to unsigned) will flat out not work if you have
any database values that previously allowed
pre-1970 dates! You would have to implement
some windowing logic to deal with that which is messy and creates the potential for creating
new bugs.
Much cleaner is signed 64 bit time_t, which
is easier from a database conversion standpoint
and should only require re-compilation of your
code.
It seems as though 2wire makes a good product.
However, their wireless router appears to be
a problem to me from a security standpoint.
Even though the router has some type of firewall
built in, due to the architecture of the box,
I can't prove that it is effective for wireless
(you point your browesr to 192.168.1.1 IIRC to manage the router).
While I can put a Linux gateway in between the
eth port and my lan, I can't get in between
the wireless side and my wireless boxen unless
I do that via wireless also. It's too bundled
and too untrustable. Also strange, 2Wire does
not sell their hardware to the public.

I'll second that having run into the problem myself. Note that it will lockup if you have
an old cd-rom drive in combo with a newer drive,
even if you put the Knoppix CD into the newer drive.
I wish I could laugh. The problem is not just
happening in Mexico (and elsewhere), but also
in the U.S. where Microsoft is trying to kill
the software industry there. They want it all.
In defense of the crew members, the snow was very
heavy, roads were jammed. Some (many) would never
have even gotten to the airport in time for
the flight. Some people were stuck in traffic
for 24 hours (on highways), barely moving.
The "value" of outsourcing in that particular example is that it forces the company to completely spec out the system requirements.
Does it? I've seen such events occur because
the internal IT staff did not have time to
spend on the project. Guess what happens?
Many non-IT people get involved in the specs,
and as far as they can discern, all is well.
The specs are then handed off to the outsourced
company, and they run with it. GIGO.
Exactly. Bringing pieces of an asteroid down
to earth is a very, very bad idea. There is
no way to know ahead of time if there are any
harmful space life forms in it.
I'm sure there is plenty of discussion
with congresspeople at this very moment.
The question is whether the solution to the patent problem will addressed properly,
or made into a larger mess.
No MAS! No MAS!

Do you know where your source code is today?
The paranoid conspiracy theory person in me says that a lot of things happened that we just were not aware of - behind the scenes.
How many of you heard about the NSA computers not being able to process SIGINT data for the first week? Not many, I'd bet.
That was a problem for quite some time. In fact, in 2003 I saw a website that had 19103 on it.
The interview was conducted over e-mail for some time *prior* to the recent introduction of software patents in India.

Apparently, doing crew assignments via paper and pencil was beyond the reach of management.

And make sure you preview (and test the link) and post as html.
You're correct about the telcos, but don't become complacent yourselves. Like having your DNS servers on the same subnet.
Agreed. How about 'Libreware'?

I was thinking of a purple cat.
Unfortunately, not true. There are those that have multiple accounts for that purpose, so they post and also moderate.
They can't help themselves. It's called denial.
In the long run it will affect them all. Many just don't realize that at this time.
Asteroid insurance anyone?
Obviously re-working the pages. Your tilde link is no longer on the main page either.

If you have any evidence of a 'fully patched windows box' on the internet, please post an ip address.
Imagine the nutritional value of Internet2 !
