There really are both sides to this issue. From the press release linked it sounds as it they want to offer video on demand and other services over the DSL line. This is almost identical to what comcast does with its video on demand. It run through a special channel that doesn't tie up your internet, and arrived much faster than regular internet video on demand. I see nothing wrong with DSL providers doing the exact same thing. ON THE OTHER HAND. If like google fears the DSL providers want to be able to charge random websites for faster access to their customers.. There is a definate conflict of interest, though I can't see anything obviously illigal about this idea.

But do expect many developers to make some very interesting games aimed at the Nintendo demographics made especially for the revolution controller.

I do worry though if Revolution will have enough power to handle high end AI and physics simulations.

In a system without a save functions files would be deeply hidden and retrieved by the application based on search criteria. For many people a recent documents list is enough for their daily work. Even if you wanted file access you could store the main file in the documents folder and the changes history in a hidden folder. Tarring them as other poster said is silly as it would make sending to others more difficult unless there was a special interface for it.

On that note do why many applications include change histories in the main file. Autosaves to a symolic file location as well as histories in another file (you should be able to pre as to how far back you want to go in time) would be perfect. Then you can send the file to anyone and no have to worry about such issues. Obviously in a collaprative environment you might want to share histories but thats not so hard.

Also it would be cool if free games could be left at your friends house when you visit (they did hint at free games being available) Even better allow someone to purchase and keep a copy of a non free game. Definatly marketing potential there, they man check out this game I bought.. Wow I want a copy.. Well its only 5 bucks and you don't even have to waste the time to download it.

On that same vein even if the controller has a small amount of flash it could store your DRM info so that if you bought a game you can play it anywhere just redownload it.

Controller can carry games, like those 5-in-1 game kits that plug directly into the TV.

This is the one I'm betting on, with all personal info included as well.
Remember you can download old games into the revolution. What if you can put them and your saved game status and other stuff with you. So you just take your controller with you to your friends house and you can share the game (obviously with some DRM on the non-free games so that game won't stay at your friends house). People will take these controller around with them instead of just leaving them at home, the controller itself will be a status symbol.

Just felt the desire to comment on the theoretics. Regarding Themed World, you simply wouldn't connect them, obviously one would only want to connect world that have similar rules. Sure I guess you could setup portals to other worlds more as a universal login/registration system. But gamestates would definatly need to be completly seperate per conceptual world. Think of it this way, say I travel to another country, I can probably bring with me something of value to trade with, but say I slip into a parrellel dimention not only would my gold be worthless but I could cheat and take thousands of pink tulips (their trade standard) with me.

Same with Security if you decided to allow untrusted servers, to connect you could theoretially send all their data with them when they leave, it would then be up to that server to decide if that data was worth something. Then when you returned said data can be accepted or dumped by you in which you would return them to their previous state.

You could even then setup an escrow service in which items of value can be traded into a central value store then reused in another service, any value at the new world would soly depend upon its creators and what it felt this central value system was worth.
