This isn't really an unforeseen problem....generally the higher you push the Mhz the more power you need. AMD faced this problem before, when they redesigned the Athlon they were able to make their XP line of processors run a good deal cooler than their Thunderbird predecessors, at comparable clock rates.
But is this really a "slashdot" article. I mean is it really big news to the general public that you can shave 28 seconds off a burn? Anyone that has a true need (like the garage bands or businesses) or desire for these drives would search for the review and this server wouldn't be suffering.
Obviously a fair number of people that read Slashdot must care otherwise the "server wouldn't be suffering" would it? Seeing as I recently upgraded from my 2x burner.....I figure I should get all the x's I can.
I would disagree with your last statement. What if you were doing professional sound editing/production? Most of the programs cost much more that the operating system does....would you use the OS's built in sound editor?
I would vote that in this case the software would be worth buying....considering that your productivity would increase by a factor of "almost infinity".
Some companies have benefitted from piracy in some ways.
Don't forget the companies that produce all of the high speed network hard/software and ISPs that supply the connections to and from all of these warez folk. I bet they have benefitted from the piracy.
I would think that it would take some time to download the gimp, or if it is already downloaded to install it, or if it is already installed to learn to use it.

So that means in communism man opresses man?

Even the names of the stations have gone downhill. I think that each city in America has a station called KISS FM or The Edge.

The firmware on the smartcard was hacked and was no longer keeping people from getting satellite service for free. DirecTV was forced into recalling the old cards and replacing them with new cards.
You are incorrect. The original poster asked "Now take this a step further: could this be done with the secondary machine a network connection away?"
VNC would work perfectly (may be a little slow, however) for having two diffent monitors, keyboards, and mice use the resoures of a single computer over a network connection.
Are most of the people that read slashdot retarded??? Do you folks really think that the kids leaving college today are less smart than kids leaving school 20 or 10 years before?
I bet none of you were born Linux gurus, were you?
I, for one, learned the skills in school that have given me the ability to solve problems in the real world...without having to be specifically trained for each and every situation.
I wasn't born knowing how to install and run software....but when the time came to know how how to do it I learned.
I would only bother ripping one or two songs, and more than a few where I wouldn't bother ripping any.
You may be listening to the wrong type of music. I like almost every song on each of my 100+ CDs. I normally don't waste my money on a CD unless I actually like the music on it.

I think I might have the best taste.
All of the sudden the only other option is a computer that Microsoft manufactured, and burned a very windows-like OS onto.
When would you need this information? And what useful information could you get from this diagram? You didn't know there had been a lot of wars?
I used to play Hunt the Wompus on some computer....I can't remember if it was a TI-99/4A or an Apple now. Excellent game.
Personally, I prefer the cheap Oscar Meyer hotdogs to the 100% beef hotdogs. Would you consider that to be negligence or gross negligence?
It would be hard to prove that their software caused the problem...Unless you duplicated the problem by removing their software again...
But, then you would have to spend a half-day fixing the machine again....I would rather have the half-day of time than the $250 court settlement.

Direct TV had this type of problem when their DSS "F" and "H" cards were hacked. They are now on their 3rd generation of smartcards.

You actually care about the plot in a game like this (action/shoot 'em up)? Are you a game reviewer???
I think they're cutting back on their hate words.
