Pretty much anytime a train station is built, be it metro, or longer commuter trains, local business and housing growth ensues. - Why? - because people want to live by trains/metros. Building a train station there wil decrease sprawl.
I'm sorry comet sightings in 1908?!?!?

When Comets Attack

I would think that if a comet was close enough to earth to bounce off it, that it would have been quite large to the eye, and LOTS of people would have seen it. A simple google query reveal no mass sightings of a comet, which are typically visible for weeks at a time.
A large flash was seen, but no precedent reports of any significant comets.
OK I guess it could be a really, really tiny comet.
Just having a sticker isn't any good. Why? If someone is really interested in the data, they can peel off the sticker, take the photos, e-mail them, and then ditch the camera.
No one checks to see if you come out with LESS stuff than when you came in.
I can see it now - there will be some weed that will adapt to grow on this stuff - something will make the jump. Then we will start to see people who "catch" an infection of dandelions on their head.
New! - Head & Shoulders with Ortho 5 weed killer!!
They don't understand the future value of sending someone to the moon, or studying basic science of bird mating habits, or increasing blue laser efficiency 10% and how it eventually becomes useful. He just wants a job he can report to, and won't think about the future. Nevermind that his job might become outdated in 5 years...
It would be nice if the media would stop glorifying athletes, and stop portraying scientists/engineers/academics as nerds or evil.
At some point computers will be good enough, that it will be more work to upgrade it than it is to use it. Ubuntu really is becoming quite easy to use - still some wackiness with 64 bit computing, and Flash, but otherwise pretty dang easy.

Anyway, I think the GP is suggesting that it's not just a little loss of visual acuity, but a lot, a whole lot. Maybe even enough to make it not worthwhile. If I recall correctly, the retina is kinda made backwards - the nerves are on top of the retinal layer. So one has to peel back the nerves to work on the layer underneath. I can't imagine that individual nerves like this at all.
Maybe because when you were a child you had more colds and infections, as it is common in kids. Once people get to the age of 12 or so, they tend to grow out of earaches.
Elderly easily tolerate radiation therapy, and surgery is only not an option for when it doesn't make sense, or if the person is really quite frail, end of life, etc.
Chemotherapy is not tolerated by the old well, but radiation therapy is, and is often the only option, other than surgery to treat malignancies in older folks - either for palliation or treatment.
Sorry - while busing is available, sitting in traffic along with the other cars doesn't really help. Buses are meant to fill in gaps in a rail/subway system. On the Westside of L.A. the coverage is miserable. Again bus coverage is reasonable in the rest of L.A., but it will take me over 2 hours to go 15 miles - that's just plain ridiculous.
Yeah, yeah, yeah - it's better than the pure acid that was present in the 1970's, but the air still ranks worst in the country. Worst yet is that there is little/no public transportation to speak of, and something like 40% of the population here drives a truck, SUV, or minivan. But apparently China is much, much worse.
So when you urinate in the morning, the toilet might check for excessive proteins to look for kidney damage, or myeloma, or see if there is sugar (diabetes). It might also check the toilet for blood to see if you have a bleed from a colon tumor, or ulcer. Maybe a little chip to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides.
Or better yet, heart rate, oxygenation, and BP levels, to monitor your exercise tolerance - to see if you are fit. It would automatically upload it to your house computer. You could also check on your baby - uh oh junior has a fever - 103 - yikes let's go to the doctor.
This would be best if it were for preventative measures
I liked the TOS, because there was much more of an unknown quality to the enemies - Spock was distrusted by many crew members, WTF were Romulans? - oh SH*T they look like Spock. I much prefer the renegrade style, wild west Kirk, than Tea and Crumpets Pickard (although he is damn good)
Yes - weekly defeats with the Federation in jeopardy would be quite tense and exciting to watch.
In humans, the optic pathways form around birth, up until 1 year of age or so. If the baby can't see at all in that time, then the brain never "forms" those pathways, and so the vision part of the brain never develops properly.

but it makes it that much less attractive, since the SS numbers can't be sold..
With the data being decoded by another computer. This would prevent crap like this from occurring again.

I'm sorry - but they will have to switch it out for a really tiny compact fluorescent bulb.

This is like some bizarro world variation of a Chia-head, but I'm not sure how.

Yes - they take your picture and steal your soul - or in Britain, they take your property!
ZOMG, replace it all with OSS

But an EKG or stress cardiogram would probably show that something was amiss.
Some people are genetically predisposed to acquire diabetes or hypertension - even if your eat super healthy food, exercise, etc.

I had to quit about a year ago - 'cause it was soooo grindy - basically 2 types of missions.
of courser this was before the Evil villian expansion was available. Did that change it much?
That would be too much fun
