Why don't the Chinese dissidents just post to slashdot. Is an American company going to give China the IP address of the offender? Nooooooooo. That's right China, fuck you. Too bad you ONLY CONTROL CHINA and not the rest of the FREE world.
Say you have a program that tries to factor numbers. It spends about 90% of the time working with the REGISTERS. The other 10% are RAM accesses. Now that's a bit different, isn't it. Fuck the hard drive, that's why we have RAM/cache.
Wrong. If knoqueror is buggy, only konqueror is affected. If KHTMLPart is buggy, then you have a problem with KHTML-using programs.
Frankly, we're glad that you like windows. It's better than everything else. Now go away and fuck yourself. Slashdot is not a windows-loving site. We like bashing windows, so we do it. Have a problem? Go away.
Just don't tell anyone that you're rewiring. Who invited an inspector in, anyway? Why does someone have the right to tell me what to do with MY house? That's right, it's MINE. If I want it to be a death trap for my family, well goddammit, it's my RIGHT. Besides, it's natural selection at work:)
WHAT!? How can you stand that? Every time you burn a 30M Debian install disk or the latest Knoppix you have to pay 20 cents!? Fuck that! If I wanted shitty music, I'd buy it... but taxing every CDR. Wow. If I were you guys I'd be blowing up some buildings or something (jk). Shit. That's harsh.
Anyway, does this affect CDRWs and DVDs also? My homedir backups would be quite expensive in Canada. Are there 'bootleg' CDRs available?
Sorry, I'm just shocked by those numbers..01 cents for a CD ($1 for 100) would be fine, but 20 cents a CD. Wow.
Maybe they shouldn't be using computers anyway. A typewriter is much easier to use than Word (oh, never mind, you have to spell correctly... no squiggles when you 'mispell' a word), a notebook stores notes quite nicely. If you're *typesetting*, then a computer is essential, but for memos it is a waste. Computers are good at doing math. Computers are good for writing computer programs. That's what they're for. Quake and Word are bastrdizations of the microcontroller.
Yeah, it's kind of sad that "ensure" and "insure" are now synonyms. They mean different things to me... it annoys me when these words are used incorrectly. Let's just spell there/they're/their there and eliminate any confusion there:) Let's lose 'lose' and spell it loose. After U, Plz.:P
Part of the problem is that people today (I'm 18, I'm in the affected group) are reading only online material -- material that has not been proofread. Books use much better words and 'expressions'. 'Going off on a tangent', don't you hate it when people use the word 'random' like:
I ran into some random person at the train station!
No you didn't, they weren't random. You ran into some person. That's all; thanks for trying to make yourself look smart by using a 'random smart word':)
Ahh, and also contributing to the problem is the SAT vocabulary. People just study words and think that they're a literary genius for getting an 800. Then they tell you that you misused (or, as they would say, "malapropriated" the word) a word that's not in the same context as the example in their "Cram for the SAT exam in just 48 short hours!". Maybe they should try reading a book; then they might know words (and that there should be a semicolon in that sentence).
Language is imitaion. Find something intelligent to imitate.
Public Key stuff doesn't get done in hardware; the modular exponentiation functions are too hard to do in hardware. DSA and whatnot (symmetric ciphers) can be done in hardware because they basically flip bits according to a key. That's quick and easy where public key (RSA) is hard and slow. So the cameras would be expensive if they encrypted every image.
The thing is, it _is_ like they didn't know that this would be abused. Their contractors told them it would be secure, so they assumed it was. Their contractors were wrong, so they make a new law. Seems fine to me. Although it's always better to have security through you-cant-do-it-because-youd-need-the-right-1024-bi t-key rather than through the lets-make-it-illegal method.
Yeah it's really easy to sign code when you don't have the key. All you have to do is try about 2^1024 different combinations of 1's and 0's. Simple, but not if you want it done before the Universe is gone.
And if you have access to the key, remember that it's encrypted with a passphrase. Assuming it's 40 letters or longer (Something like "This is a passphrase that is long but easy to remember. I would just like to tell you, Mister Password Prompt, that nobody will guess this!"), you would have to try about 100^40 different passphrases. That's hard.
So basically, it's really hard to forge a digital signature. Harder than breaking into the BK server, anyway.
> Email is too important and too ubiquitous to be screwed around with. The surest and best way to deal with spam is to filter/tag at the end user or ISP. Legislation won't cut it. Threats won't cut it. Whitelists/Blacklists won't work. You can't even rely on first line HELO identification checks. There are just too many monkeys who've set up email servers out there.
I'm glad someone finally got it right. Let's come up with a technical solution instead of a legislative solution. This way, everyone is free to do what they want (which IMO is a good thing), and I don't have to read spam. SpamAssassin is great (I've been training it with sa-mark for quite some time, but it's not doing bayesian filtering yet. Time to RTFM...).
My NX70 just stopped working. I've *never* bought anything from sony that hasn't stopped working just after the waranty ends. I think I'm going to get a T|E from PalmOne. Nice price point...
If you don't want GNOME to crash under Linux, then you CAN use XFCE or something under Linux. At least the base (Linux kernel) is stable. I had 1 month of solid uptime in XFCE before I unplugged my computer and, uh, lost the uptime:)
1) Tape the emitter diodes to your side mirrors. 2) Paint the backs of the mirrors (the plastic part that faces forward) silver to "look cool" (and to reflect light at the cameras).
Know why you don't see stars during the day? Because their weak light is drowned out by the sun's brightness. Drown out your IR pulses with a reflection of mister golden sun and you're home free. Time for some encryption on these suckers, eh.
How is a 512 bit key equivalent to a 15,360 bit key? If you "only" have 512 bits, then you have to try 2^512 keys. If it's 15360, then you have to try 2^15360. 2^15360 is A LOT bigger than 2^512. So they're not equivalent. This is sort of irrellevant because 2^128 bit keys are still out of reach these days (i.e. if every computer in the world [every known computer; the NSA could probably break this?] worked on generating keys, the message would come out way after the Universe ended. That's a problem if you want to know what the message says:)
Who says it's abuse? The TOS that you signed? You didn't sign anything? It's not illegal to search for text on the next page repeadly with your friends? Ohh. Then it's not illegal.
I think it was on topic and hilarious. :)
It's funny because it's true

In spanish, ElGamal means "The Gamal".
Nah, it's okay. It just says:
:)
# sorry, no spidering

Disallow: *
That's why google doesn't pick it up. Frankly, that doesn't bother me
Sue with what intention? The source code it out, it's too late. Remember Nullsoft's GPL'd file sharing tool? That's still being developed!

Actually, the computer could win if the axiom of choice happens to be true. Even if that isn't true, a computer could still beat every human on earth.

Don't work there then. Do I care about your wage? No. I just want low prices. It's what the market demands...

Obviously if you're changing the traffic light you don't care about accidents!
mod this post up, it's a good point
Problem solved:
1) Tape the emitter diodes to your side mirrors.
2) Paint the backs of the mirrors (the plastic part that faces forward) silver to "look cool" (and to reflect light at the cameras).

Moral of the story? Drink Diet Coke :) Plus, you'll have so much gas you'll never need to refuel your car again...
