We're working on a solution to that - a new emulator, which hasn't gotten off the ground yet, to be built on GPL'd foundations. I can't speculate on release info yet though since the other main developer needs to get a version of xouvert out of the door first.
There's a difference: I bought all her albums (to that date, 1996 or so, but she hasn't released any new songs since then), in fact, I have bought a couple of her albums more than once. (I also have one of her 7" singles...yes, that's a "45" for those of you who know about old-fashioned records.) I have misplaced those tapes. So I feel it's within my rights to mp3z0r for backup materials. (BTW, it's over HTTP. I only use HTTP, FTP and DCC protocols for mp3z0ring and oggz0ring.)
Well one good thing, I think they're the only company that released an IBM-compatible CP/M 4.1 (Personal CP/M-86.2.0/4) that actually felt like CP/M. (DOSPLUS 1.2, which came with the Amstrad PC1512, felt like MS-DOS. But you could run a CP/M 4.1 CCP on it.)
I'm having trouble reading and replying to newsgroups since Google isn't showing comp.sys.apple2, comp.os.cpm and comp.emulators.apple2, and is very spotty with alt.fan.sailor-moon. (Sometimes I have been able to access these groups. YMMV.)
My ISP unfortunately isn't giving me netnews, so I'm trying to find a solution, and I have not found one.
This sucks, because I use comp.emulators.apple2 as a help forum for EMU][, among other things.
Sellotape? Hmm, I've always heard it called Scotch tape. Oh, and "Kleenex", everyone calls tissues Kleenex around here... and cola "Coke" (even if it's Pepsi or some off-brand). Yeah.
It's a terminal, it doesn't even need to run an OS of its own...FreeDOS should do the job nicely, IMO, because it's lightweight.
And besides I believe this X server is GPL'd. Used to be shareware. It might not be as snazzy as XFree, but it will probably suffice, and where function is more important than snazz, well, at least this will run on a 286.
Interesting you should mention CDE as I have been thinking that what Linux needs is a good free CDE clone based on Lesstif (and its modified fvwm, called mwm). XFCE could provide the panel, and a heavily modified rxvt could serve as dtterm, and perhaps dtksh could be based on pdksh. The tools are there. I'd be willing to spearhead a project if any capable programmers were to step forward (I'm not a capable programmer, honest).
XFCE 3.8, installed it just before 4 was released.:( It's based on GTK but it's still far, far, FAR lighter than GNOME... it actually runs well in only 64MB RAM.
As for an X terminal, there are X servers for all sorts of OSes including 286-based X servers for DOS. (FreeDOS.org has one)
Maybe what needs to be done is work on GNUSTEP... I for one would think that an OS based on GNUSTEP (especially if based on Darwin) would be popular if only because it would be the closest thing to MacOS on x86. (GNUstep with an Aqua-inspired WM, that would be elite!)
TOS on the Atari ST original? Nay, it was a clone of MS-DOS. Oh wait, you meant the original Star Trek. ;)

If it was code released by SCOrdure under the BSD license, no, it still has the advertising clause.

Hacking DOSPLUS 1.2-je4!
65 channels and there ain't a damn thing on 90% of the time. I resort to watching videos a lot.

God. Classic MTV (with the all-musicvideo all the time and sitting on the postmodern edge) I want you back...

Okay, I'm 'z0ring Paula Abdul MP3s right now.

In fact a good number of anime.

msys in MinGW comes with rxvt. ;) That's pretty damn close to an xterm if you ask me, but only C apps seem to work well in it :(

Because I want to experience things the way they are described in a lot of those "intro to X" type books, which all described CDE.
Same reason I play around with CP/M-86.

Nah, the replacement for X as we know it will still be X.
