According to the latest Gartner group research report, the Linux hype is finally over. Research shows that market share of linux-driven production servers on the internet has finally declined to a single-digit number. The reasons for this are clear:
* Linux is unstable * Linux has an unreliable filesystem * Everybody uses Windows or BSD, nowadays
Research has clearly pointed out, that although there are still hordes of pinguin-dressed geeks running around MIS departments, management has grown wise (or gone out of business) and doesn't even allow Linux workstations anymore, since the costs in maintaining these machines turned out to be astronomically high. The reasons for this are clear as well.
* Installation is a pain in the ass
it usually takes a whole support team to install a geeks' workstation
* Bandwidth
Installation and maintenance requires 4-5 times the bandwidth a 'normal' OS would require
* Integration and connectivity
Linux was deliberately made completely incompatible and inoperatible with turnkey solutions like
MS Exchange or MS SQL server. Investments in these products are therefore voided the minute you start rolling out Linux.
* Complexity
Applications developed in Perl or C, the languages of the linux community have proven to be slow, unreliable, insecure and headaching complicated. Once developed and debugged, nobody is able to understand the code.
Therefore, it has been statistically proven that most companies have already moved away from Linux. This can be concluded from the following signs:
All the 'geeks' wearing tux t-shirts are actually MIS support guys who are still studying for their MCSE exam.
'The screaming fast linux machines at work' are actually refurbished workstations at a separated network segment, not allowed on the production network since every linux (l)user seems to neednmap to perform normal work-related computer operations.
All the 'cool' Apache web servers are actually IIS machines with forged host headers. (yes, you can do that in IIS without recompiling anything. Heck, I lived for years without a C compiler and still do. )
For the rare instance where a free UNIX is actually used in a production environment, management has smartened up and BSD is usually installed.

Recently, slashdot editors CmdrTaco and Cowboyneal were spotted while they were enjoying their holiday on the Fiji islands, engaging in diverse male-to-male activities. Apparently, they were short on cash because cowboyneal rented the ferrari only for half a week, and cmdrTaco went bargaining for a cheap young boy to examine together.
In order to be able to live their smelly lives in a decent way, they need more money. And that is done in two ways:
1) sell out the account info for non-subscribers
2) Serve two-page filling ads
They're screwing us and nobody's paying attention.. guess they learnt well from the IT industry after all....

The Troll Library has recieved a major development award, the CowboyNeal Microsoft
Excellence Award for its revolutionary new trolling system. Essentially a rewrite of slashcode,
the troll library was written on Microsofts'.NET platform and not only outperforms slashcode by a factor 35,
but implements a set of features that simply make it superior.
Major features of the system include:
* Automatic detection of trolling stats, with reports generated through Crystal Reports(R)
* Automatically add or remove trolls in order to reach a fixed % of trolls
* Connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange server, Lotus Notes, Outlook and VBScript
* Front-end implemented in ASP+, back-end written in VB.NET and Managed C++ (R)
* Open sores blocking mechanism GPL-Block(TM) prevents unauthorized use of GPLed software, comments or plugins.
* Support of visitor-supplied COM add-ins to personalise content.

I'm just installing "Visual Studio.NET Enterprise Architect" on my
"Windows.NET Enterprise Server Beta 3".. what a load of marketing-babble.. 5 cds but it looks super smooooooth:).. and, by the way, C# rules big time (especially over Java)
Actually, if you made the computation in a 2-dimensional matrix,
the result would be that 1 != 0
I won't write that out, it's far more complicated than the famous 1=0 theory;)
and make microsoft go out of business. After all, if they do not give proper refund when you don't use bindled software, you have the right to sell it. So we can start second-hand software shops! Windows ME for $10; Windows XP for $25!
Yes, absolutely right. VB is great for rapidly creating client applications or prototyping.
A good way to quickly develop an application is first programming it in VB, and then port it to C++ part by part.
Also, you can do really weird things with objects and interfaces, if you've got the patience to play with it.
Talking about the subject, reminds me of a link where I once surfed to. It was some Russian Mafia software bootlegging servive where you could order tailored versions of commercial apps. They had several examples for download and

Darn! I was too busy programming VISUAL BASIC *grin* to notice the new story!! damn you linux guys, all of you!
i agree, even products that stole bsd code, like win2k are better then linux.
heh, linux is just a bag of experimental dirt shit. in fact oone runs linux on a production server: that's all bsd, sco, solaris or windows.
Wow, I was wondering about that memset bug for a while now.. good to see people working on it!
Let's say, 0,1 % of the sterilised flies will produce mutants. Lets say we have 10 billion flies. How many mutants will they produce....
