The only thing I didn't like about the article is that after reading it, I got the impression that Sklyarov is the person repsonsible for the programmer. I don't know if Elcomsoft is incorporated or not but (I think) that alone would clear him from being personally responsible for the ebook processor. Even if it isnt there surely has to be another person who is equally liable for the program. I don't know shit about programming but I do know that unless it's a homebrewed app it's always written in teams. And even if it was written only by him, the COO, or even whoever gave him the ok to persue it is more responsible for this (bs) violation then Sklyarov! Anyway, it's obvious he's being targeted, that's all I'm trying to say.

I honestly think that if someone posted that article here as a comment it would have merit b/c it's just a comment. Saying MS is bad/evil is fun/great/perhaps even accurate. Saying what they should and shouldn't do is also good for debate but imploring the Gov't to penalize a business....All you people saying /. should be journalistically responsible should point your flame throwers at sivalley.com

Think about it, you ask the gov't today to tell MS it can't release an OS really means, "Write a law so MS can't do X (assuming there isn't one on the books already." Does MS violate any privacy laws with XP? I dunno and after having read the article I still dont! MS is possibly guilty of being immoral for XP (I say possibly cuz I haven't touched WinXP) but being criminally liable to the point of injuction? Either tell me why or STFU.

me: It's broke and I can't fix it.
Supp Guy: Ok a new one's out the door.
    Me:You da man!

The other cool thing most of their Corp Acc Mgrs are some of the coolest/nicest ppl I've ever worked with.

To that I would ask that you keep in mind the moves and shakes made by corps against 'anonymous posters' slandering them on yahoo and some other places. The paralell between the two scenarios is that corps leveraged an interpretation out of the courts to out these people so they could be fired (assaulted) but eventually a judge came up with three (or was it 5) relatively good points of criteria and more are following suit. My point is that despite their dense attitudes towards technology overall, evetually (there's that word again) they catch on. People will get screwed between then and now but afterall, democracy is a slow process.

I have to admit, even though a specialized distro is not really a new concept I'm quite intrigued. Imagine that instead of selling a card that plugs into a PC (as it's sometimes done now), a company could sell an entire PC with a home brewed Linux distro. Obviously the price would be higher but that kind of custimization could lead to some really interesting setup from a professional perspective. Kinda like the embedded concept but scaled a lot higher!

I'm only kidding but you saying we're wasting money on sports research is the same as those rednecks who say NASA is the black hole of money. Why do I say that? Well, my sister-in-law had to have arthroscopic surgery on her knee after a skiing snafu and she is 100% back after only 6 months. Where do you think they perfected that technique? Why are those sneakers you wear into work everyday so comfy? When we send food to Africa how do you think we know how to pack as much nutrition into as small a package as possible? Those are only the tip of the ice berg (thats my excuse for being unable to come up with anything else :) ) but sports research does have a realistic ROI in at least some cases.
