  1. two second 'nop' on Ridiculous Software Bug Workarounds? · · Score: 4, Funny

After upgrading a server, we watched a client verify the server through his daily application. The client entered data and clicked on submit, the next screen appeared instantly. "This is not possible" said the client "it takes about two seconds to submit data to the database"!

"But the new server is much faster!" we said. It didn't matter, the client refused to believe the data was really submitted.

We held a meeting about this 'problem'. One developer suggested to add a two second 'do nothing' loop to the submit button.

So we patched the server and asked the client to verify again. He entered data, clicked 'submit' and was very happy to have his two second delay back! "Now it works..." he said "...now the data is entering the database!".

We admitted our fault (knowing very well that all we added was a two second delay).

And while your country is spending gazillions on invading Iraq and others, they improve their economy with 10 percent each year.

Since when? And for how long? I'm skeptical of the figure but I will tell you this, rises are followed by falls. And if you think the american economy is crappy... well you don't live here and you have no idea. I can't complain... gas is cheap again and I take home more than it costs me to live... but irradiated seeds? Any first-year biology student will tell you what happens with irradiated seeds.

Since 1978 or something. They have room for a lot more economic expansion. Looking at the American Poverty Rate i don't think your economy is that great since 2000!

As for the space seeds, your NASA is doing the same thing.

And yes, an MCSA / MCSE is still worth something. People say you can just glance at a book and pass it, but the thing takes 9 tests, some of which are so anal that you do actually have to study, and it helps to have seen it in practice.

It takes only seven tests, not nine: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcse/windows 2003/

Being MCSE on NT4, it took me only two tests to become MCSE2000 and two more for MCSE2003.

How many people do you actually know with an up to date MCSE?
About twenty people, (but i work freelance for different Microsoft training centers).

I know 1. I'm sure on slashdot a lot of people actually have one, or work with a lot of people that have one, but when someone says "Oh, MCSE is a breeze, 10 minutes of studying and I could take it", take them up on it, offer to pay the $100 if they can pass "Exam 70-294: Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure" or "Exam 70-285: Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003". I bet you 95 out of 100 can't do it without studying.

Yes you can, it takes at most an hour to study a braindump. I took 15 Microsoft exams, and never failed ( http://www.cobbaut.be/cobbaut.php?blad=cv ).

On the other hand, I am glad I'm back to being a Linux admin, where things make sense.
